Just watched mad max for the first time

It's a B movie made almost 40 years ago, dude. Enjoy it for what it is.

As for the Road Warrior.... It's the best of the series. I don't get why MM4 got so much love, people just got swept up in it somehow. Road Warrior has a deeper feel and better characters. Every single character in the movie is desperate. In MM4, the bad guy is apparently a multi-billionaire with infinite resources. It just undercuts the whole tone of the series, and simply feels like a fast paced action movie. The setting is secondary at best.

RW ain't perfect but it's the GOAT of the genre.

On the side, here's a Road Warrior character point I had missed for decades... wtf is this pic in Humongous' gun case? Cool... He used to have a real life.

Always wanted to see it. I sat down and knew I was about to watch an action classic.

I was wrong.

This movie is trash. What the fuck was that? You call that an action movie? They show literally 0 people get killed. Jeez how prude is Australian film? I thought i was gonna see epic road scenes and dudes getting murked by gunfire. What I got was a bunch of nonsense. Is it supposed to be so bad its good?

The movie is paced like bumper to bumper traffic too. When it was over i thought 5 hours had gone by.

Now I have to watch the road warrior. I've heard that it is better. Which doesn't seem hard at all so it probably sucks too.

Chalk this up as my number 1 movie disappointment

Mad Max (the Original) is a film that gets better the more you see it.. if that makes sense. Watch ‘The Road Warrior’ then finish the trilogy off with ‘Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome’.

I grew up watching them so I’ve always dug them. But Mad Max was always my least favorite because I couldn’t appreciate the ‘art’ behind some of the story and characters. Road Warrior and Thunderdome are very well made and more straight to the point.

You're talking about the Mad Max movie with Tom Hardy? I guess I need to rewatch it, I don't remember Immortan Joe being a billionaire, unless their currency was milliliters of milk lol

He burns fuel for recreation and show. How did he build those water pipes? How did he make that armor? That compound? Masses of speakers? Seriously, how did they construct all this ridiculous shit?

RW just feels more real. The bad guys have 5 bullets left and they're living in the frickin dirt. They're being bad guys because it's their only way to survive. Meanwhile in MM4 droves of bad men are heroically risking all so Joe can get a lady back. I just ain't feelin it.

In a post apocalyptic setting you can just take whatever you want especially if you're the "strongest" outfit. They also weren't shy about enslaving people and putting them to work. You make it sound like there's still society with money based economics and I would've thought that was long gone, with the only real currency being stuff that's considered useful, or a luxury.

I feel like we watched an entirely different movie in a different setting with different characters :D

Mad Max isn't great but The Road Warrior is brilliant. Definitely don't pass that up based on the first movie

This. A rare occasion where the sequel is better then the original. Now the third one...

@n...not crazy

I pulled this off the wiki, regarding the gun case
  • Gun Case: The photograph of the couple appears to be from the WWI-era (1914-1918). The man is wearing a British officer field uniform (tunic, Sam Browne belt, jodhpurs and cavalry riding boots) and the woman wears fashions common around 1916-1920. There are two silver medals (possibly service medals), two commonwealth service stars, a large Prussian Totenkopf and Australian Military Forces uniform insignia amongst others.

I watched Mad max 1 also and was disappointing, was like wtf is this felt like some home movie hahaha must have been the budget and age of the movie ( same thing happened for me when I watched highlander 1 again recently.) I actually downloaded all 3 so I guess I'll try watch 2 next.

I like mad max a lot, it gives reason for max being the way he is.

I’m also one of the believers that “Max” in the new movie is the Ferrell kid.

Mad Max Fury Road is a slap in the face of the franchise. The strength of the movie is the hopelessness and that everybody is barely getting by. That's all gone in fury road. Burning fuel for fun and water for days? And why the fuck would you tie someone to the front of a truck playing a flamethrowing guitar?! I got genuinly irritated watching that pile of shit they call a movie..

Roadwarrior and Beyond Thunderdome are classics. Mad Max is a bit hard to watch but that's just because of the era and the budget.

I actually just watched that for the first time a month ago and loved it

I watched it for the first time a year or two ago and loved it! It was like a violent kids movie.

Fair enough, each to their own. I watched again in my late 20's and thought this is embarrassing yet absolutely loved it when it came out.
