Just got my Bas Rutten Cd's. . . . HOLY ****!!!

I downloaded this a long while ago from LimeWire and found it to be very effective. I also have used some Ceaser Gracie No-Gi Technique dvd's (to get a second outlook on bjj other then my coaches teaching ways, just to see whats out there, sinec I live near the ceaser gracie academy and will be doing the gracie tourny next year).

The bas one is very enjoyable, mostly due to Bas himself

Edit: I plan on getting the "legit" version because the video on the download is weak, I just wanted to see if it were worth it :)

I've had an offer accepted to buy a flat with a big double garage. Decided to turn half of into a bit of a gym with a heavy bag and weights bench.

The Bas CDs are one of the 1st things I'm going to buy, along with the Pit Workout to mix it up a bit. From what I've heard, the Bas ones are the best, but I was just wondering if there are there any other recommendations from any of you lot?

Yeah, a power rack. Go to the S&P FAQ, pretty sure there's something on building a home gym.

I just used my rutten tapes for the first time today, worked me so hard i was on the verge of pueking. REally look forward to mastering it

Ha, you think that's tough, try doing it on a heavy bag or on pads. Makes it infinetly harder.

Could someone tell me is there a big difference between the bas rutten workout tapes that he sells and the on that black belt mag sells for 9.99?

haha ya I figured that out. I think this is a mix of how out of shape I am and how great this workout is. To be honest after I watched the dvd I didnt think it was gonna be as hard as it was. Man was I wrong. This is gonna help alot w/ my cardio and me getting in shape.

tried something new today with the tapes, did the thai kickboxing tap and substituted the punches for kickboxing

1-jab left kick
2. jab left kick, right power kick
etc etc,
whenever the tape called for knees i would throw elbows

it kicked my ass , i have a goal eventually to do the whole 3 minute rounds workout using punches adn then start over and do the whle 3 minute rounds substituting with kicks and elbows, goal is by january 1st

^ you do know that the MT tapes call for a kick after each combo (i.e. 1 - right kick, 2 - left kick) so you follow up each ending-combo punch with an opposite side kick, right?

...unless you got the free version of the boxing cd...then shame on you.

no, elbow instead of the kick to follow the combos, i failed to mention that specifically, the hardest part of course the stamina and keeping up to speed

no way, i'm a huge bas rutten supporter and bought the cd's

^ much harder to kick after the punch combos...and grabbing the heavy bag (assuming you're using one) up high and throwing alternating HARD knees is very taxing to the cardio...and switching sides (i.e L-R-L-R) also teaches better coordination to kick after punches...

...but even better (and much harder) is to follow up the kick w/ an opposite side punch

i.e. 1 - RHK - left hook
2 - LHK - right straight

etc...

the knees get me everytime right now, i'm working on it, when bas says throw 10 knees i'm only like 5 or 6 on the heavy bag before he calls out the next combo, but i'm working on it

I'm gonna have to get it and run through it in my class, see who can hang........I'll probably be the first guy on the floor cursing out the Netherlands.

switching from 2 minute all-round to 3 minute all-round killed me. i was able to go through the 2 minute tapes twice over, and when i went up to the 3 minute tapes i barely finished it.

Hello, glad I finally found this thread. It is like seing 50 reviews of the dvd. I am a physician. I am not a fighter, but I am interested in finding something to help me get into shape. My only experience in combat sports was high school wrestling. Now I am outta shape. I used to love to lift weights, play basketball and tennis. Now I work, play chess and watch MMA. Now getting back into weight lifting seems too boring. I am really hoping to find a good workout that is not boring, and hopefully this dvd will fit the bill. What else do I need besides the DVD. Do i need a heavy bag, gloves or anything? Or is that more for hardcore fighters? Thanks.

Kind of a dumb question, but how does one follow a work out routine on a CD?

(Serious question)

He'll call out a combo or a knee or two combos or so on, and you just do it.
You shouldnt have to see it done, and there is an instructional DVD that shows the combos and examples of each workout.
