International Just 0.2% of US border fentanyl seizures are at the Canadian border - CNN

Sarcasm noted.

But no, its because they know fentanyl is coming back and forth through their border with us. We have a problem that is killing 100's of 1000s of North Americans and we all need to contribute to stopping it. I appreciate the Canadian fantasy that the border is a defentanylized zone that all the traffickers respect but we all know thats not the case.
Yeah I get the feeling he TS flowing north a lot more than south. As has been pointed out, it’s cheaper in the US than it is in Canada so it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to suffer it across the US border to sell at a lower price.

You’ll also have to excuse me if I don’t take this outrage very serious at all. The administration talks about the serious border threat with Canada and then talks about making it a state.

Probably a lot as Canadians have a growing fentanyl problem. Hence the need for more security. More border security benefits both sides of the border. Any drug trafficker we catch and put in prison is one less smuggling to or from Canada.
I’m not disagreeing with border security. Canadians and Americans see eye to eye on that. There’s nothing the Canadian gov wasn’t already doing for border security before Trump’s criticisms. These are classic excuses, distractions, and misdirections from Trump’s playbook.

The point is border security is not the real justification for Trump’s tariffs.

Well, it is American border agents that inspect everyone ENTERING America. Com8ng into Canada is Canadian and they are a joke in comparison, but still turn up more. Fix your shithole country.

You're aware Canada has lost 1000's of people to Fentanyl coming directly to your country from China?

But as you could see by my last post, we're on the same page. I just, unlike you, don't feel the need to be a snide cunt about it.

How would you do it exactly. Given that it's the longest border in the world it seems difficult to fully police.

Its not about fentanyl, he just wants tarriffs. The Trade Expansion Act of 1962 is what gives the president the power to use tarrifs without Congressional approval, but it has to be in response to a National security risk. So he has to give a reason, and drugs are just an easy scapegoat.

Something thats killed 250,000 americans since 2018 is a scapegoat.

Oh, you're not a cunt!?!?!? I don't know how your posts over the past 24hrs would have given me that impression.

Using fentanyl as a reason to punish Canada with harsh tariffs is nonsensical.

Have you ever seen the Canadian border? You can walk across. At the most difficult points you only need a canoe

Nobody is looking there, nobody at all.

How come Canada was committing more security to their border even before Trump pressured them?
Actually, we started doing it after he first announced that he was going to put tariffs on us, before he officially took office. Not that I mind the improvements, but it's all about the tariffs. We jumped immediately.

Damnit Canada, give us the good shit instead of this 0.2% fent garbage. We need good quality drugs from Canada to offset the garbage coming from Mexico.

China supplies most of the materials mexico uses for fentynal production and meth. They would go after china if they truly wanted to stop fentanyl production. China is probably also supplying colombians and all the mafias in europe.

To be fair we are in a tariff war with China. While I can’t pretend to understand all the consequences of this war, I do believe this is one of the few areas the Trump admin is actually doing the right thing.

Going after Canada though is nonsense.

Canadian border also had 200k illegal border crossings recorded last year. In reality it's probably much more. It's a fraction of Mexico's but still among the highest in the world.

As a Canadian and a port worker, I'm sure some drugs are coming through our ports and down the USA. However, crossing two borders is very illogical.

I do however support some form of corporation to stop all these drugs ravaging our two nations.
Not really, Canadian ports are far more lax, what is being sent in is largely precursors to manufacture fentanyl. Once product is ready for market it can be smuggled in much smaller packages. This stuff doesn't need to take up nearly as much physical space as other drugs so because of that it is much easier to smuggle and takes more effort to apprehend.
How would you do it exactly. Given that it's the longest border in the world it seems difficult to fully police.
Yes so anyone pretending the border is already secure is a fool when you can carry millions of dollars worth of fentanyl in a back pack and just walk across a trail in the woods.

To everyone saying fentanyl isn't a real issue I suggest reading Sam Cooper's report on the matter. This is a massive problem that is facilitated by corruption at all levels of the Canadian government.
