Hardly anyone in boxing is affected by Saudi money st the moment, other than the HWs

I don’t think they care about the US or any market. Non of this is about making profitable events as far as I can see

They've only just started to really burn through money in boxing. I don't see them getting tired of it. Not with the ridiculous budget they have. It's far more than all of the major players' budgets combined. North America isn't the market that they're looking to target with this event. Neither headliner is from there. One is British and the other is a native African/French-Cameroonian.
Yeah its more of a global marketing campaign. The only objective I think they have in the west or with North America is to make themselves a sanitized version of Vegas & to turn many American sports stars and sports fans into friendly palletable brand embassadors with a tourism hub that has the most extravagant sports spectacles on earth.
They don't care about making money.
Its sports washing & marketing.

No different than ancient Rome. No different than America.

Give the people and the world distractions that create revenue and entertainment for the citizens. It passifies the masses. Then you can govern & rule with less scrutiny and pushback.

That Prince is something else. He has major plans & wants a place in world history empire status.

I think it's about bringing in more tourists.

I think I read earlier in the week that they are targeting Inoue for a date this year, and are offering upwards of $70 million. That’s insane! Great for him, no doubt, but I do wonder about the long term effects on the sport. If you pay a guy that kind of money, he has no incentive to fight again. After one or two Riyadh seasons, we might not have any stars left at all.
I doubt the 70 million claim unless its for 2 fights because that 70 would be astronomical for someone fighting at 122 for 1 fight (35 is too but somewhat more plausible considering Inoue is said to make 10 million+ per fight in Japan). I suspect it was a bit of hyperbole on Ohashi's part when he said a 10 billion yen fight in Saudi

Second if the 70 million claim is true then that didn't diminish Inoue's enthusiasm or fighting spirit in anyway because the Saudi approach would have already been known to him before the Tapales fight yet in the post fight press conference he said that he wanted to fight 3X in both 2024 & 2025 with a fight against Nery in May, MJ in September, & a 3rd opponent in December. If anything the money seems to make him want to fight more frequently as over the last few years he has been fighting 2X a year

Third how are guys who put on boring stinkers like Shakur & Haney making so much more than Beterbiev, Opetaia, & Matias who produce KO's & entertaining fights? Solely because they are Americans. Thanks to Saudi's now some of these guys will be getting paid what they are worth instead of the Shakur's & Haney's who are pushed down our throats as the "future of boxing" (more like the "future of tag you are it")

Inoue is not a social media drama queen, takes the best available fight 1 after another without any of this twitter drama, goes the extra mile to get the knockout. If anyone deserves 70 million in boxing today, its him

After the Tapales KO, what's his statement? I want to fight 3X in 2024 & you will all may have heard rumors about May, I can't confirm it yet but I will show you an even stronger Inoue in 2024. A week or so later he tweets:

Roadwork starts today. I will try to support Mr. Takuma and Mr. Hiroki

Takuma is his younger bro & Hiroki is his cousin, both of them are also boxers

He lets Ohashi do his job of negotiating for each fight while he focuses on his job, expect a date & location announced for the Nery fight soon enough

No A side, B side twitter drama unlike with Tank, Haney, Shakur, Ryan, & all these similarly overpaid Americans who do a lot more talking than fighting

Inoue is indeed a rare fighter and is always a joy to watch. I have no idea why some of the fighters you mentioned are so obscure and others are multi millionaires despite putting on stinkers. It could be a combination of country of residence and weight division. LHW and CW are weak at the moment, and Camda and Australia aren’t hotbeds of boxing, unfortunately. I really hope they get paid, too. Especially Beterbiev seeing as he’s near the end of his career and hasn’t made a lot so far.

Think about Floyd Mayweather being the biggest PPV star of all time. A stalling, ducking, running and constantly holding midget - who couldn't hurt any of his opponents aside from Fatton at WW or above and whose fights were largely AIDS for the last decade of his career.

In order for that to happen, American boxing fans and casuals had to through some extraordinary brain washing through constant 'P4P greatest' propaganda to actually pay money to watch him bore everyone to death on a way to another decision.

The problem is the Stockholm Syndrome seems irreversible. Now they actually insist on their stars being point fighters.

Besides being brainwashed it is crazy how they try to gaslight you into thinking that playing tag is "sweet science" & even criticize fighters who take some risks to get the KO like Inoue does

Inoue in the past explained that if he solely focused on defense he would hardly get touched but that's not exciting for either the fans or him, the fans want KO's & he wants to give it to them

After Shakur's last stinker, justifications were trotted out saying "TBE" also fought like this, he got the win & that's all that matters, & he showed the sweet science of hit & not get hit. Just box office poison these guys are but since they have the American passport they make bank over guys like Matias or Opetaia who actually come to fight & give a sh*t about the people watching

The Saudi's have less incentive to push these featherfisted stinkers as the "future of boxing" & I am hoping instead that they give a platform to deserving guys like Inoue, Opetaia, Matias, Beterbiev while keeping the appearances of stinkers to a minimum

The term 'sweet science' tells you part of the problem. It's a ridiculous, frankly embarrassing, nonsense label that was unsurprisingly coined by a 19th century British dandy journalist.

That legacy has long continued, as boxing media has always been full of pretentious pricks who constantly spout complete bullshit trying to prove how clever they are.

This has led to a sort of gatekeeper mentality, where if you don't particularly enjoy watching a house fighter pointfight and eke out controversial decisions from sympathetic judges, you are uncultured swine. Intelligent people can recognize the beauty in running, slapping and hugfests that our feeble cavemen brains can't, you see.

They have managed to convert a large part of the fanbase to this mentality, and Floyd was even responsible for indoctrinating a lot of casuals.

It's going to take a few more American sluggers who aren't limited hypejobs (Wilder) or the size of a garden gnomes (Tank) to really start to deprogram people.

Saudi desires >> contracts
yeah thats true in some cases. but i dont think Fury or Usyk would go for it. Usyk does not seem like someone who can be convinced easily to step aside - he agreed to that 70/30 split with Fury last year so he clearly isnt in it for the money

Rey Vargas (second PBC guy to appear in Saudi)( Frank Sanchez the first) 36-1 vs his mando (Nick Ball 19-0) also added
