Josh Koscheck fought GSP for $10,000. Thinks he deserved UFC job over Nogueira

TS - as always -- nobody does these types of threads better...

As for Kos, most of what he says strikes me as the type of things that most employees would say at some point in their careers.

The major exception - IMO - is his claim (if I understand it correctly) that Dana basically told him that if he tried to review his contract with his manager, it might be withdrawn (perhaps I am reading too much into his comments..?). I really don't find that surprising at all.

These guys do have to figure out that there are only so many make work jobs for ex-fighters in the UFC.

Wasn't Kos also hard to deal with behind the scenes? I remember hearing something of the sort, kind of like he was a bit of a drama queen to handle.

Damn. This has to be the first time that I found myself legitimately interested in what Josh Koscheck has to say. Didn't dissapoint either.

That was definitely an insightful interview considering Koscheck's history with awkward verbal tics.

Kos has been taken pretty well care of during his career. I bet he makes more than every Bellator champion in his first fight there too.

He is spot on on the UFC. it's basically a bunch of thugs with zero professionalism bullying the fighters and blackmailing them.

And these are the killers of our time, the gladiators.. being controlled and even humiliated by three rich playboys. Its a damn shame.

I get the fighter pay argument but Really Josh? How are YOU going to retire? Trying to play that sympathy card?

I didn't get a sympathy call from his explanation. I think he is just explaining that he figured it out the first time he signed the contract that he got screwed and decided to look out for Josh Koscheck ever after.

Example; Koscheck is happy with his life and the results at this stage. He has other business ventures and enough of a career to finish it fighting even if it is not on the main MMA stage.

Chris Leban.....blew it all, burnt the bridges, smoked it, popped it, snorted it, shot it perhaps, and shot his after fighting career and life all to shit.

They both had the same opportunities. I have zero sympathy for either of them, but Koscheck is the far more respected of the two at this stage and I don't really like the guy.

Are you sure that he owns those?

There's youtube video's of him showing off his toys + his million dollar house.

Not sure if he owns them but even if leased - you don't get approved unless you have the finances to back it up.

I know he's said he owns the plane.

Nice to see him speak up, also nice to hear he respects GSP the way he does.

ts, thanks for posting the interview. i appreciate the work you put into it. you're a good dude.

He is turning 38 soon and is on a five fight losing streak and is still fighting. I would be surprised if he didn't need to keep fighting.

Meh, everyone's giving him a hard time and I get it, he's got some dough from the UFC.

But, he's not saying that he doesn't have money, he's saying that most young fighters are threatened and bullied into some pretty poor deals based on the concept that they may make money in the future, which seems pretty true.

His heart is in the right place. Hespect.

The only real splurge there is the Ferrari. A Range Rover and Hummer aren't exactly out of reach cars to your every day person.

Totally outrageous how Dana negotiates with fighters one on one and pressures them not to involve their management. You'd think managers would be wise to this and give the fighters some coaching or employ some other tactic on how to deal with this. Maybe even a clause in the management deal that requires the managers consent to a deal or something.

LOL at Kosheck for comparing himself to a legend like Nogueira.

Let me guess condom depot and Gary's bar paid for those fancy cars huh?

Thanks guys, really appreciate it:) Also apparently he doesn't have those cars anymore.

For sure he probably has to keep fighting. I doubt any fighter wants to see their career end when they still see themselves as able to fight.

My main point is that Koscheck has made choices outside of MMA that could take care of him long after he is forced to retire. He certainly doesn't seem to be seeking sympathy in his explanations and reasoning for where he is at and what he is doing. His words sound to me like someone that learned early on to grow a pair and look out for number one instead of expecting the UFC to take care of him for ever after.

Nate Diaz bitched out about his contract and has put himself into semi-retirement because of it.

Koscheck finished his and moved on to greener pastures, albeit he had fewer choices, but at least he took the respectable route to do it. Nothing in what he said demanded sympathy. He completely owned his choices and explained his reasons and motivations.
