Aldo spoke with MMAFighting Portuguese Podcast.

“With all humbleness, I think Ngannou shot himself in the foot, He had everything to sign a great contract, the biggest in heavyweight, but this desire to be a boxing champion or to fight in boxing… People see the top of the boxing pyramid getting paid big numbers but forget that the lower part is paid so little. I think the UFC has bigger salaries than boxing."

"I see Ngannou tripping about a fight with Tyson Fury, a champion, who heavyweights aim at but don’t come anywhere near. It’s like saying I wanna play soccer because they get paid million but forget only five percent gets paid millions, the rest make way below that. People say that the UFC doesn’t pay that well, but it does. That’s why it’s the biggest organization. You can make money like big boxers can. Conor McGregor, Ronda Rousey. People say women don’t make money and she’s made it, right?”

“He’s leaving the UFC and you can be sure that 50 percent of everything he is is off his name now. Ronda, in order to make her movies, she had to be in the UFC. No one talks about Ronda now because nobody remembers her now. The UFC is elevated alongside the athlete. You need to be in there. You can have a partnership like Conor did with the UFC for Mayweather and that’s how he made millions.”

“I don’t know who’s wrong, if it’s Ngannou or the UFC, so it’s hard to judge. We weren’t participating [in the negotiations], so [I’m talking] based on what we heard, but they could have been more flexible. Ngannou conceding, but saying, ‘I have full capacity to go there and face any boxing champion and represent UFC’s brand.’ It’s all about the negotiation. I had the opportunity to sit down with them and negotiate that and it didn’t happen at the time, I stayed in the UFC and got to a point where I am today. I hope he can continue doing what he does best, which is fight MMA.”

“I see several athletes imagining they can go to boxing and they don’t even have good boxing,” Aldo said. “Ngannou has heavy hands, but if you look at his punch, it’s not a classic boxer that makes you think he will go in there and throw a punch like he does in the UFC and knock someone out. It’s a completely different sport, it’s a completely different fight. These guys are used with that.”

Conor Mcgregor also said the same thing when he last visited MMA Hour. It's hard to know for sure right now, cause it's still too early. But I think I agree with Conor and Jose. A lot of Conor's and Ronda's huge payday outside of the UFC is caused by their affiliation with UFC. Without the status of HW champ Francis might not worth that much. Aldo's comparison with boxing and soccer seems spot on to me.

I think that the UFC should pay fighters more but I think Francis played some BS acting like he did it for the better of fighters. It's funny to see Fury and the rest not mention his name now. It will be interesting to see him crawl back to the UFC or take a pay cut to fight elsewhere out of pride.

Respect Aldo's thoughts but Ngannou is a heavyweight and a bigger star than Aldo ever was globally. People actually want to watch the big guys fight - it's not the same for smaller guys like Aldo.
Lmao, dude Aldo was a MASSIVE Star around 2011-2014, whatcha talkin' about?? Especially around the WEC/UFC Merger.

The fight with Mendes in Rio was Massive too and The Greatest FTW Fight of All Time.

Francis is known, but Globally I guarantee more who know MMA and Fighting, know more about Jose Aldo than they do Francis Ngannou.

Yup. He's only saying what a few of us here have been saying. These were my first thoughts when the whole thing went down. I even made a thread about whether Francis would ever come groveling back to Uncle Fester, but it got merged or something, and then I might have just deleted it. Basically, Francis should have just negotiated a new, short term contract at higher pay, and then fought that out. Then, he could have done what he wanted, like Anderson and Aldo.

Aldo forgets that Francis is in that 5 percent. That's a huge hole in his argument. People are jumping to conclusions too early; we will see how the Francis situation plays out.

Aldo is right and i miss Francis in the UFC.

Fury (not as likely yet) or Wilder (much more likely). Even a Wilder fight would net him a lot of cash - probably a full year or 2 worth of UFC fights if not more.

Wilder has been angling for Usyk or Joshua recently, and has a WBC eliminator against Ruiz if he wants.

NGannou isn't really on the map for the big draws

And quit using his most effective striking technique after Anderson snapped his leg.

A lot of people have no idea how devastating of a kicker Aldo used to be. Pound for pound the most brutal kicker.

Andy's leg snap had nothing to do with Aldo dropping the leg kicks.

He had a moped accident in Sep 2012 before the first Edgar fight and the fight was rescheduled. He never went back to a leg kick heavy strategy again

People may know who he was but no one wanted to buy his fights if it wasn't against McGregor. Ngannou could undoubtedly make a lot more money as a free agent than Aldo ever could.
Did Fraces sell that much more? The only buy rates I could find were 350k

Francis himself said he was offered 8 million a fight. In no way is he making 20 plus million in a Boxing fight

That and a pretty bad bike accident which messed up his back.
The KZ fight where he broke his foot seems to be a big part as well. Its a shame because he has maybe the best leg kicks ever. I remember the Font fight he threw like 4 kicks and every one of them was brutal and hurt Font

See that's where you're wrong. Boxing fans are insecure and they know their sport has been emasculated for a long time by MMA, the superior product.

Watching one of their punch guys beat up a real fighter under their safe terms would mean a lot to them.
Dude, stop. No sport in the world has more insecure fans than MMA fans. You post proves it

Francis’ game plan would’ve worked if he had a fight lined up and fought by now.

He went from the most dangerous man to becoming a straight-up joke faster than anyone in history.

I would say as well its also that he improved his jab to the degree he did not have to throw lowkicks nearly as much to control fights.

And yet it's boxing fanboys who come in droves into MMA websites trying to convince themselves their sport is still relevant.

The fact that you're here proves it.

All Ngannou needs is one BIG boxing fight with a good manager behind to make this whole thing worth it. Easier said than done, I know. We will see how it plays out.

Didn't Aldo ask for his release so he can box?
Yeah, after he was on his way out from being at the top and with his mma journey near the end. Francis was at his peak, champ and possibly more title defenses in his future. He could have probably worked on maybe getting one more shorter contract and then sail off after that.

Literally no one in the boxing world cares about Ngannou lol the media, the fighters, the fans none of them give a shit. The only real interest Ngannou has gotten so far is to fight some 10-0 Russian that no one has heard of, otherwise the only people this "means a lot to" are the mma media and Francis himself.
