Jon's going to end up fighting Aspinall and all these tantrums will have been in vain

It created hype, so it wouldn't have been "in vain". Everyone complaining about it would also be thrilled that the fight ended up happening, bad thread.

Lmao no he won't

This douchebag has been coasting and gleaning star-struck judges since 2016. Used fucking Turinabol on DC. Went to a decision with Anthony Fucking Smith. Lost to Reyes. Lost to Santos.

There is no way in fuck he's going to fight Tom. He wouldn't even fight Frank. He waited until Stipe aged like stake. Since USADA he's never been what he was. And any time he comes close to what he was he pops for steroids.

He's a fraud, like Dana.

Maybe, or maybe he actually retires. But I know that the UFC can make a promotional omelet out of all this drama.

Nope. Jon's always been risk averse and avoided the Reyes rematch and Francis. In the highly unlikely event he changes his mind on the Aspinall fight it will be entirely because of the public pressure put on him and the damage this has done to his legacy.

I doubt it because he never wanted anybody besides Stipe. After seeing Gane get outwrestled by Ngannou and knowing Gane doesn't hit bery hard for a Heavyweight, he decided he liked his chances at beating Gane to become a 2 division champ. Much like what GSP did with the Bisping fight.

I doubt it but it would be very funny if Stipe dropped out and Jones beat Tom and made it look easy, then retired. Just because it would be hilarious to watch Sherdog do a 180 and claim Tom was actually never that good and that the real fight with Stipe would have been his undoing.

But then again I just like to see chaos, so take from that what you will.

I’m not sure what the point is of him even fighting Tom? If he fights him and dominates, everyone just says Tom was overrated or whatever. So who cares?

Nah, he won't fight him just like he never fought Ngannou.
How was he supposed to fight Francis when the man was desperate to leave the UFC so he could go box? Didn’t Francis admit to turning down a huge offer to fight Jones? Pretty sure he did.

forget Aspinall, he's 1 fight away from ruining his legacy. if ancient Stipe beats him Jon is going to look like a tool.

We're seeing a combination of public negotiation and trolling. Idk how the negotiation will end up going, but the trolling is working quite well. This reminds me so much of Aljo getting everyone's jimmies all rustled talking about how Yan didn't deserve a rematch and all that. Guess what? He ended up rematching Yan. Jon knows how awful not fighting Tom would look. The only way it doesn't go down is if the UFC is too cheap to make it happen (assuming Jon doesn't ask for some obscene number he knows he'll never get-that would be ducking).

I swear, MMA fans are something else. The sensitivity is remarkable. A ref could blow a call and cost an NFL team a Super Bowl win and the hysteria would pale in comparison to the response to the average Jon tweet. The guy's literally causing some of the redditors on the UFC subreddit to have mental breakdowns. People on here have been a bit better, but not much. Chill the hell out. The constant bitching and moaning has become insufferable.

I also don't know how more people haven't picked up on the trolling. Comparing Aspinall to Anthony Smith and OSP? Jon's not even being subtle anymore.
Will bump

I don't necessarily believe he will, but I definitely think he's leaning into the backlash of not fighting him. I hope he does but I won't be surprised at all if he retires.

My advice to any talented athlete
Stay TF away from the UFC/MMA. do football boxing basketball be a social media influencer
Go get your money dont waste your time entertaining these weirdos.

Now i totally get why back in the mid 2000s most my friends looked at me crazy when i told them i watch UFC..
i get it. you'd think we'd evolve by now but NOPE.

and the worst part is A FIGHTER cant even play a HEEL in the ufc cause both dana
or the fans will totally MARK OUT.

There is a fair chance that Jon retires, takes a year off, then goes to PFL for a Jones / Ngannou fight. Not a great chance, but not that much worse than the chance that Jon fights Aspinall.

There is an argument that Jon vs Aspinall would have regenerated no hype for casuals (who I would guess are the ones keeping the lights on in terms of dollars spent) without all the drama

Jon v Stipe has some name recognition anyway, but if Jon v Tom ever happens a lot more people will actually watch it now

Not that this isn't shameless ducking by Jon but I can see why Dana has allowed it to go on this long. At least people are talking about it now

If he does end up fighting Aspinall, then it would only be because of everyone calling him a duck finally getting to him. Even now it's less than 50/50, and he's going to try to price himself out, but he would absolutely have avoided it otherwise and still probably will.

jones beating stipe will just draw more attention from the fake media and fake fans as to why he is not fighting aspinall. the hubris of jon blows up in his face. if he loses, bye bye "muH L3gacY." if he wins, then everyone will be asking why he won't fight aspinall. it's a lose-lose situation, one that he hasn't prepared for. no amount of UFC hype can fix that one.

i can see jones coming back but just not at HW.

you have to give jones some credit, because his initial move to HW, he did fight the worlds most dangerous HW who moves like a MW, a once a in lifetime HW striker. people really thought that shit, including jon. in his eyes, he already beat the future of HWs.

I think asking for $30 million is pricing yourself out.
Also, recall his twitter rant after a Francis fight "Just release me already Dana" blahblahblah.
Jon has been very tactical about what matches he accepts always, after Reyes arguably beat him, he realized that he has a few good ones left in him and he needs every possible advantage, including one opponent getting his purple belt the week before their fight and the other coming off a KO four years ago.

Not saying Ngannou didn't have his own contract issues, but I'm sure the UFC would have pursued him even more if they were 200% sure they'd get their Jon Jones vs Ngannou super fight and possibly would have even yielded to a one and done boxing demand from Francis post Jones fight.

Francis wanted healthcare benefits for all of the Cameroon nation Sherbro.
