War Wagon Jones making sense?

sure, but what was the point of just sitting on his ass with the belt? that part made no sense. he could've dropped the belt and went back to LHW. i'm sure UFC would've been fine with that to make a big fight with Pereira, but he just did nothing.
Oh I agree that Jon sitting with the belt and doing nothing was horrible. Jon obviously wanted to duck Tom Aspinall and get a more favorable matchup. No question. But Ankalaev beating Pereira ruined those plans for a heavyweight superfight.

The UFC is mostly to blame here. They already gave Jon a favorable matchup with Stipe. They should have played hardball with Jones and told him "no, you are defending against Aspinall or getting stripped" -- and then stripped him right away. But Dana was a naive idiot and genuinely believed Jon would fight Tom given a big enough payday.

At this point? Why would you risk fighting a quitter who could ruin the BIGGEST event in UFC history?

When you could fight an actual legend like Poatan who has achieved everything over two weight classes, and is looking to do it in a third.

Poatan is by far the bigger name and draw. Its not even debatable at this point.

The first headline fight by aspinall ended in the middle eastern crowd booing him and everyone rating it as the WORST card in recent memory.

Theres no fucking chance Tom gets anywhere near a main event until he redeems himself against gane.

Dont need to think too hard on this one he is just picking easier fights for himself

He wrestle and wrestling heavyweight is a challenge
Just look at his recent fights

Yeah it was definitely Tom getting eye poked that ruined the event lol.

It's very important to blame the guy who got poked and never the guy who did it.

There is no argument that defeats the point that the champ must fight the interim champ when such a challenger exists. The championship is disputed and that must be settled. Even past that, a champ with only one title defense and only two wins in the division has no right cherry-picking opponents. Just be a proper champ.

Had Jones relinquished the title at a reasonable time he could have had a point, as then he can fight whomever he wants, but he didn't and therefor has only himself to blame for the criticism.

Then again he's done worse things than blatantly ducking an interim champion.

This paper coward Asp was exposed. Jones is still GOAT and best current HW. Get out of here, you scarecrows and sycophants Asp.
ANY Goat would have told Tom "Bring it."

Line em up & knock em down

It's what a champ does.

It's from before 321 and as I listened to it I was thinking, damn, off-drugs Jones is actually well spoken and makes sense. And I'm thinking we know that Jones' fight IQ is crazy high, but I had know idea that he had any kind of real world IQ.

JONES:
Why not fight against Pereira, a guy who's the same age as you, and we walk around the same exact size? Right now, I had to eat a big breakfast because I'm getting underneath 235. Pereira walks around at like 240 and he has magnificent accolades.

Business-wise, it makes more sense. Fight the guy, I'm going to call him this:

Fight the nobody that may be more dangerous or fight the guy with all the accolades who's incredibly dangerous, but actually will affect your legacy?

Where, when you look back and it's like John just beat Alex Pereira… It's bigger. It's just much bigger.

He was/is so right here. And after the disaster that was 321, I can't think of anything bigger or that makes more sense. Hell, call it the "true BMF" or something, but make this shit happen.

Right now, absolutely makes sense to fight Perreira. In this moment, Jon can fight anyone he wants and is not obligated to fight anyone he doesn't want to. He gave up the belt so he's earned the right. But prior, definitely not as Tom was the interim champ while Jones was HW champion.

Yes, after such a disgrace, Asp should be given a lifetime interim champion title and allowed to fight for a real belt only when he stops crying and faking.

At least now Asp's fangirls can be happy: Asp is no nobody at any means: a lot of people now know him thanks to his antics. Herostratus from UFC. <RIP>

its a business decision that ultimately promotes their match - if there is demand generated, he would fight.

If Tom would have destroyed Gane, jones would have called him out.

Tom looked like a fish out of water against Gane.
