Jones is an easier fight than Aspinall

you seem to misunderstand the entire picture and its kind of funny.
I think you two are seeing the entire picture, just looking at it differently.

Jon "won" in that he held the belt at HW and defended it against Stipe. You can look at it in a couple different ways. Stipe is the HW GOAT, so on paper it looks great. He walked away undefeated, which also again, looks great on paper.

But he also held up the division, always making coy and evasive comments about defenses, and everyone knew what he was doing. Except maybe Dana. Everyone knows full well he had no intention of fighting Tom or Pav. He would spout nonsense about them earning his graces but Tom ended up defending an Interim Belt which is never supposed to happen. You have the Interim Belt, the championship is disputed and the next time the champ fights, it's against you. Stipe was almost four years retired, way past his prime and coming back after a bad KO loss.

Jones' legacy has always had huge question marks on it and this was one of the worst ways to go out- actively ducking the obvious fighter, going after massively post-prime fighters and stalling in order to hold on to the belt as long as possible, only to just leave unannounced when pushed to fight. And then he changes his mind a week later. When people remember Jon Jones this will be the first thing they think about.

okay buddy. i probably have more than you could ever imagine. lets do a street beefs
I can imagine herpes, gonorrhea and syphilis and agree you probably have more than that

What kind of ridiculous post was that you gimp

If you had all you pretend you wouldn't be on here desperately trying to run defence for Jon being run out of MMA by Tom Aspinall

You are the dogs danglies right enough

In November 2024, Stipe, who hadnt won a fight since 2020, was no2, and Tom, who had been the interim champion for a year, was no8?
huh?

Jones called out the #2 ranked HW in March of 2023 after winning the belt.

Tom was not interim champion, he was ranked #8 and just lost to curtis blaydes

Jones Stipe was announced. Jones tore his pec and the fight was delayed to 2024

Why is this hard to understand?

Calling out Stipe in March 2023 was ALREADY stupid, considering at that point he was already almost 3 years removed from a win. To then have both Jon and Stipe stay at home for almost another 2 years keeping the belt hostage was completely indefensible. By November 2024 there was only one real option for Jon to fight, and that was the guy who had been interim champion for a year and had even defended the interim belt while waiting for Jon to man up. No idea why as a fan you're so adamant about trying to legitimize being given a complete bullshit fight instead of the much bigger and better fight we were supposed to get.

As for those rankings, which you keep clinging to, how can you be ranked no2 when you havent fought in years, havent won a fight in even longer, and havent fought anyone else in the top 10? oh yeah...when the UFC controls the rankings and are trying to steer the narrative so they can sell us a certain fight down the line. Same reason Gane has been considered a top 3 HW for years when his actual wins in the almost 4 years since the Ngannou loss are bum Tuivasa (and he got rocked in the process), bum Spivac, and a contentious decision over Volkov that many considered a gift.

They matter in all classes

The UFC was not going to book a fight with the new HW champ Jones against a #8 fighter who just lost to Curist Blaydes

Well nobody was expecting them to make that fight when Aspinall was rehabbing his knee injury. Pretty sure most people are thinking about after he won the interim title in November of 2023. Jones fought Miocic a FULL YEAR AFTER that, and at that point Stipe had not won a fight in FOUR AND A HALF YEARS.

I realize you fixate on when Jones first called out Stipe as though the situation couldn't change, but just because that's convenient for your argument doesn't make it a good one.

And if rankings matter in all weight classes, why are unranked or lower ranked fighters given title shots?

Reading the posts to this thread make me feel terribly ashamed for some of you, similarly to being on a sinking vessel and instead of taking the life preservers you choose allegiance, then punch new holes in the hull in defiance, it’s truly bizarre.

Wym?
