I think you two are seeing the entire picture, just looking at it differently.you seem to misunderstand the entire picture and its kind of funny.
Jon "won" in that he held the belt at HW and defended it against Stipe. You can look at it in a couple different ways. Stipe is the HW GOAT, so on paper it looks great. He walked away undefeated, which also again, looks great on paper.
But he also held up the division, always making coy and evasive comments about defenses, and everyone knew what he was doing. Except maybe Dana. Everyone knows full well he had no intention of fighting Tom or Pav. He would spout nonsense about them earning his graces but Tom ended up defending an Interim Belt which is never supposed to happen. You have the Interim Belt, the championship is disputed and the next time the champ fights, it's against you. Stipe was almost four years retired, way past his prime and coming back after a bad KO loss.
Jones' legacy has always had huge question marks on it and this was one of the worst ways to go out- actively ducking the obvious fighter, going after massively post-prime fighters and stalling in order to hold on to the belt as long as possible, only to just leave unannounced when pushed to fight. And then he changes his mind a week later. When people remember Jon Jones this will be the first thing they think about.
