Jones is an easier fight than Aspinall

At the time Jon won the belt Stipe had already been out for two years after getting decapitated by Ngannou, and was nearly 3 years removed from his last win. He then sat at home for almost another 2 years before he fought Jon. By that time Aspinall had already been interim champion for a year, and defended the belt, meaning Tom was the clear no1 contender to fight Jon for 19 of the 27 months that Jon held the belt.
Ufc was not going to cancel a superfight betweeen two goats at MSG for an uknown fighter.

It’s not about who is better/easier/any of that.

It’s about who makes you the most money.

Aspinall isn’t a draw.

Where was who ranked??

What point if any you are trying to make here?

Where was Asukura ranked when he fought for the title vs Pantoja? It's a really easy question. If "rankings mean everything", Asukura must have been ranked pretty highly? So tell us what his UFC ranking was when he was given the title shot. Simple.

Ranking dont mean EVERYTHING. Connor got titles shots based purely on popularity.

However rankings are the primary indicator and metric of a fighters achievement in ANY combat sport.

A champion IS NOT going to call out an unranked or lowly ranked, unknown fighter who has just taken a loss.

Foremost a promotion is not going to promote and invest money in such a foolish debacle.

Jon even in his prime struggled handling long-reach fast paced striker like Gustafsson and/or Reyes. Jon has masterful grappling yes, but he's never been a pressuring grappler like dagestan or even DC. Jon is more like a "defensive grappler" - skillful, slow paced, with good cardio. To me the walking thru a clueless Gane exaggerates Jon's grappling ability.

Jon isn't a quick fighter when young, now he's even slower. Alex stands a massively high chance dominating Jon Jone.

I mean, I actually quoted your post verbatim that "rankings mean everything"...but okay. We've now established you didn't actually mean that.

But again, you're still hung up on who gets "called out". That's not what determines how fights are booked so it's weird that's what you're fixated on.

I should be more explicit then, rankings mean everything to fighters.

The only metric a fighters has for their success is their ranking

Does it mean everything in terms of opportunity, not for exceptions like Conner

back to the ongoing impetus for the thread-

A champion IS NOT going to call out a #7 ranked, unknown fighter who just lost a fight, period.

Tom/Jon would have done way bigger numbers than Jon/Stipe by that point. Ater all the build up it might have done a million plus buys.
Unlikely, Tom is essentially a nobody
The only reason he has hype is because of the Jones prospective fight.

Jones the GOAT vs the Stipe the HW GOAT was an event at MSG

If the UFC thought Tom was star material like Stipe that warranted a fight against Jones, instead of Stipe, they would have made it happen

Conor? I gave you an example within the last year of an UNRANKED fighter getting a title shot. Another ranked #4 or 5 getting one. Those are just within the past year.

So no, they don't mean everything to fighters. Bonuses and money seem to mean more.

And it doesn't matter who gets "called out". It matters who gets scheduled when the fight is actually booked.

Stipe was an irrelevant old man by the time he fought Jon. Even in his prime nobody ever really bought that Stipe was actually the HW GOAT, and he was never a big star. Late 2024 Jon/Tom had become literally the most anticipated possible fight in the sport.

Also this "Tom only has hype because of Jon" stuff, while true to a degree (i'd say he also has hype because hes been destroying everyone in the first round) is kind of unfair because thats how most stars get made, including Jon himself, who got to fight multiple older more established names to build up his own name.

A fighter is almost certainly unlikely to be remotely compensated, if they're not ranked

If stipe was irrelevant

The UFC wouldnt have booked him against the GOAT at MSG .

They would have booked a number 7 or 8 fighter who just lost their last fight.

When they're in a title fight lmao? They're getting main event $, same as a guy ranked 1 or 2.

At UFC 309 press conference the crowd was literally chanting Tom's name in response to any comment Jon would make.

I fucking love you idiots are trying to revise history. Jon vs Tom was set to be a gigantic fight, one of the biggest of the last decade.

These are the facts-

When Jones beat #1 Gane (Interim champ) Stipe was #2 and Tom was #7 having lost Curtis Blaydes

No champion is going to call out a barely ranked fighter who just lost.

Tom got the interim belt, Jones retired saying he only wants super fights

Alex Perriera is the only super fight other than Jones in the sport.

These are the facts

Personally Id be pleased to see Jones fight Tom or Alex. But the reality is Jones beats Tom, its no different than beating Gane. "Oh Tom was a nobody and not hat good"

Alex vs Jones is a true superfight everyone will watch
Dana himself LITERALLY SHOT DOWN the whole idea of Pereira vs Jones and once again reiterated Tom vs Jon is the fight to make. On camera and everything.

Just because you're too stupid and your memory doesn't go past 6 months it doesn't change what actually happened.

Pull your panties up sugar loaf.

Nowhere in my post is there anything about Dana White.

Check your emotions

You're running around this thread that Jon is only looking for "superfights" and how Tom doesn't qualify yet he was offered 30 MILLION to fight Tom. Just not a good enough "superfight" paycheck?
