Jones fighting a washed up Miocic

Didn't he do quite well in all DC fights considering he was eye poked in most of them? He was also doing kind of fine against Francis and even stunned him for a second right before going out.. something nobody else has ever done yet ..

Stipe did great against DC. He made DC look like an awkward, sloppy brawler who couldn't land a takedown and didn't understand the basics of defending body shots. Stipe's also one of only two people to ever finish DC (the second, of course, being his upcoming opponent).

When did Jones ever say he was scared of Cormier? That doesn't even make sense, why would you be afraid of someone you beat twice. Can we please stop calling Jones scared? That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Jones has been wanting to fight Stipe for a while stop hating on the man for taking control of his career. You Pav fans will get your time once Jones retires because even if the rumors of those fighting are true, Jones will still win. Like he always has, like he always does.
I don’t remember if it was ts but I had this argument with someone a while back. Basically they cite an old interview where Jones was asked about whether he would run it back with Cormier at hw and he basically said that he didn’t wand to give someone as good as Daniel that extra edge on him and that he would be more confident fighting him at LHW. It’s pretty understandable reasoning but this somehow morphed into Jones being “scared” to fight DC at hw.

It’s a good try, but you forgot to start the thread with,’can we all agree…?’

Jon Jones = King Cherry Picker.

The last one he looked like dogshit, but he was fighting an even more washed DC in his last fight.
I think him looking like dogshit had more to do with the failed gameplan (which was obviously to tire Francis out first). That's why he was like 50lbs lighter than Francis and was just running around, trying to lure him into strikes. Positive outtakes from this: he survived like two brutal onslaughts from the scariest MMA dude and was still game until getting KOed. So I think the chin is still there and he is very durable. Still not sold that he is "washed". Neither that Jon is still "so good" that this is a total mismatch. Obviously Pav deserves the TS more, but giving it to Pav means we are losing Stipe for good, as he clearly has no interest to compete in the usual way except for one more lucrative enough. Doesn't he deserve one more cool fight, irrespective of if its for the title or not and that he lost his last one? He still has KO power and not clueless in grappling.

Alternate title: "Miocic fighting a washed up Jones"

People have been saying Jones has been out of his prime since the OSP fight (2016), or maybe even the first Gustafsson fight (2013). We've been told he's looked terrible, basically losing to bloated middleweights and only maintaining his hold on the division due to PEDs. We've heard that when he actually fights people his size, he looks average and beatable. We've even heard that he'd never go to heavyweight (despite being a "natural heavyweight"), because he'd lose quickly and repeatedly.

And now that he's actually showing some success, even the best fighters at heavyweight are bums now. Anything to discredit Jones, right? Somehow all his opponents aged and he never did?
You got to remember most of the guys Jones beat when he started at LHW were old and washed up

The 29 year old Shogun is a perfect example of this.

This was after the fight of course, prior to that Shogun was going to break Jones chicken legs

Jones vs Stipe at heavyweight is an all time great fight. 205 goat taking on the heavyweight goat with the heavyweight title on the line is a big deal, even if stipe is older and coming off a loss.
IMO It's too late for this matchup to interest me. Not just because Stipe doesn't have a title, the layoff has been too long. The division has passed him by at this point, He doesn't have a single win against a top 15 fighter.

he’s the heavyweight goat, what else is needed?

Stipe is the best UFC HW. Jones joined UFC in 2008. Stipe had his first MMA fight in 2010.

It is like Sherdoggers who say Hendo fought over the prime Fedor.

A win in the last 3 years?

I agree he's the UFC HW goat, but he's already got an immedate title shot after losing a title. Granted he deserved it but I don't think he deserves a second one.

he’s only recently lost to DC, which he avenged twice, and Francis, who he’s 1-1 against and never got a rubber match with because Francis left town. The guy is a legend of the sport, if anyone deserves a title shot it’s Stipe.

There is not a fucking thing anyone can say that makes sense why Jones should fight anyone else but Stipe from his perspective. I 1 bajillion percent agree. Being the best doesn’t mean you pick the hardest fight against an unpopular opponent to prove something. You pick the biggest money making fight you can you believe you can win that management offers. Anyone saying otherwise is a damn dummy imo

if anyone deserves a title shot it’s Stipe.

there's already been 3 hw title fights since he's last fought, Why should he be rewarded for sitting out and waiting when we all know he could have been fighting? Why give him one NOW of all times?

Jon is very high in mileage. Maybe 36 years is not that old for a heavy but 29 fights are a LOT of fights. Jon is smart, he’s not going to stay around and be preyed upon by younger, bigger, unknown heavies.

We don't know if Stipe is washed though. Wdon't know if he actually has gone downhill. We'll only know that if he fights again.

41 year old full time firefighter with no trt exemption who fought twice in the last 3 years and carrying 2+ years of ring rust. LOL of course Stipe is WASHED. No man in his 40s without trt could still have it.

Stipe only fought the best in his division for years. Some of the people who call DC an all time great also mock Stipe who beat him twice. I'm surprised at the lack of respect shown him.

Because this is the last opportunity for us to see him fight. He is clearly not interested in continuing in terms of the regular conterdership, but is ok to give us one more, and this is against Jon no less. An overall GOAT vs HW GOAT. Shouldn't we be grateful? Would we really be content if Pav was given TS and Miocic just faded into obscurity with the last memory of him lying contorted on the floor against Francis? He deserves a better farewell..

Kind of late to the news. There's been nothing official about that fight. They've been. "Hyping it" forever now. Once it was linked to IFW but that flopped

I don't know who's tanking the negotiations

Pavolich deserves it the most

I say do the Stipe and Jones fight because Stipe is the most decorated champ ever and it seems like that's the fight they both want... but it's a legacy fight. Who the hell knows what's next for either of them. It would seem Jon would be more reoccurring but I don't know

If they want to keep us in the dark and do nothing for a full year you gotta move on. Get Pav in there against somebody for the title

No we shouldn’t be grateful it’s 5 years too late for this.

I don’t care if stipe is the goat, he’s not the best he anymore jones will benefit more from fighting the best heavyweights

I read this while hearing DC's voice saying it. Dont ask me why tho.....
