If Jones called out the unknown #8 Aspinal who just lost to Curtis Blaydes after becoming champion, that would be supremely idiotic and unfeasible
 
As bad as Jons behaviour has been, the division was fucked long before him. He is basically the latest in a succession of "difficult" champs. It started with the Stipe/DC trilogy that shut everyone (apart from Derrick Lewis of all people) out from title contention for years while they tried to bring in Brock for an immediate title shot. Then we had Ngannou finally get the belt only to defend it once in an underwhelming fight and leave.

At the time, correct, it wouldn't have made sense.
In late 2024 when there is an interim champion there was no sense at all in rebooking the fight.
Plenty of fights didn't happen for whatever reason. Khabib/Ferguson was the lightweight title fight that should have been made once upon a time, but we aren't talking about booking it today because things have moved on.

Im not following what you are tying to say. Jones called out #2 Stipe after beating the #1 HW

There is zero acceptable or intelligent reason for Jones to call out an unknown, barely ranked fighter who just lost to Curtis Blaydes. That would be absurd.

Jones/ Stipe fight was delayed and they fought. They were not going to rebook two of the greatest fighters ever because the rankings shifted.

That would be equally ridiculous by all metrics.

This. If I'm Tom I'm moving on like Jon didn't exist. I'd never say his name again and just pretend he's retired when act I'm the undisputed champ. Take out Gane and that tall Russia. Collect checks and title defenses.

Jones called out Stipe in 2023. At that time, the fight made perfect sense, but it didn't happen as Jones got injured. Stipe was offered to fight for an interim against Pavlovich, but turned it down, leading to Aspinall winning the interim belt.
After that fight happened, the Stipe fight no longer made sense and should have been scrapped. Stipe was offered to fight for the title and turned it down, at which point he should have joined the back of the line.
We have just seen this with both Shavkat and Arman losing title shots, and the division moving on without them.

But the UFC wasnt going to reschedule a fight with two of its greatest fighters and squeeze in some unknowns that had suffered recent loses.

Stipe is revered as the greastest UFC HW of all time and Jones the greatest fighter of all time.

It just wasnt happening and would have not only been quite stupid, but a disastrously poor promotional business move

Any reputable mma website removes fighters from the top 15 after 18 months of inactivity. As you just said.. Jones was out about 20 months.

Sherdog removed him from their rankings. So did EVERYBODY else.

The only place Stipe magically held onto a top 10 ranking was in the UFC. I think he was ranked 7, just before the exhibition fight with Jones. After 3.5 years of not fighting.

That’s fucking criminal if you ask me.
