Jones had a rematch with Gus when Gus had been out a year and 7 months and had exactly 2 fights in 2 years and 10 months time. He knew when to pick the fight so that it best benefited him. Gus was also finished by Anthony Smith in his next fight just 6 months later.

Right, because the first fight with Penn for example wasn't 'difficult', or a split decision. He gave Penn, Hughes and Kos a rematch. He retired after Hendricks, he claims, because of the enhanced testing fiasco and personal issues.

You may choose not to believe this because you want to speculate GSP was afraid and is lying, as is everyone who has confirmed this, from Firras to Danaher, saying it's all a big conspiracy, just like it was for him to willingly submit himself to enhanced testing while nobody else was doing it, and while Hendricks refused.

At the end, GSP even agreed to do whatever testing Hendricks wanted, in addition to VADA, and Hendricks simply did nothing. See the correspondences between Kizer and Rodolphe. It wasn't just before USADA came. GSP criticized drug testing while fighting in the UFC and wanted extra testing for his fight against Hendricks, which made Dana mad. Then he took his break and continued to criticize the testing in the UFC and Dana was even angrier as it started getting more traction in the press, together with other voices about the issue. Only after that had been going on for a while did the UFC partner with USADA. Part of GSP's legacy is to having part of making the company take drug testing more seriously, where Jones is rather aiming for becoming the most frequently caught cheater.
