Yeah, Phoenix wasn't on the cringelord juice that Leto was.
He said he had fun shooting this movie and seemed open to doing another if the script was right

Did Leto say he had a bad time filming?

Did Leto say he had a bad time filming?
No, but he was saying he needed to go to some "dark place" to do the role.
Phoneix said he had a good time making the movie with Phillips so I would think he wouldn't be too hard to convince to do another movie if the script is right

yeah, leto's joker is a joke in comparison, pun intended.
joaquin did some phenomenal stuff in this movie.
he is getting that oscar, for sure.
not the movie, cause politics, but the role, come on
Again, I think it's just that Suicide Squad was so damn bad no actor would do good there. That movie was a clusterfuck of blunders and bad writing.

Sounds like Phoenix is open to it and according to him Todd had enough enthusiasm to keep shooting at the time, at least. WB and DC would be crazy if they wouldn't want to cash in on a sequel. There is also a lot of source material they can use as inspiration for a sequel. So, IMO, a sequel is not very unlikely.

The obvious sequel would at least start with him in Arkham and having Quinn as his therapist and escaping. .......... but yeah Jaoquin just doesnt care about the big money and does it more for the art like DDL . Just doesnt seem like a sequel guy. But wishful thinking I guess........

Anyone that signs up to play Joker again has alot of balls.

Yeah, he isn't a sequel kind of guy, but the interview does make it seem like he might be for this character and movie.

The sequel will suck ass

No way they can come up with a script that phoenix will agree to

Not sure if this has been posted yet but it should be. This is an interview with the cinematographer of the film where he talks about the fate of Sophie

That's actually really disappointing that the director is coming out and clarifying things like this. Not everything needs to be explained to the detail imo just let people make up their own minds. That's one of the great things about art.

The script for the first one was written with Phoenix in mind. They could do that again and there's lots of great source material to draw inspiration from. If they can capture the disturbed relationship with Harley in a realistic way. I bet you that movie will be more successful than the first one. It already has a massive fan following coming in and the other people who haven't seen it for whatever reason, will want to get to know what the hype is about. Because people IRL, in the media, and on the internet will not shut up about it if a second movie will be announced.

And if they can find a worthy Harley - that is probably the biggest challenge, IMO - it would have the potential to be a qualitatively better movie than the first one, too, if written right. But that's just my subjective opinion.

And they could have Phoenix involved in the creative process of making the script, so that way they know he'll approve.

Why did you think that?

I actually liked that scene.
First off, they kept talking about joker doing his act, but then when he came out he just went straight to the couch and didn't do an act.

2nd, he wasn't funny, he was actually pretty serious. Joker is always funny, even as he's killing people. He's usually not angry when he kills.

3rd, it turned cliche when he started blaming society and the system... Just lame stuff that we hear losers complain about all the time.

4th, it was anti-climactic. We knew he was going to shoot deniro, and he did. There was nothing really interesting or unexpected about it.

5th, I personally thought the dialogue was weak but that's just my opinion.

just got dragged to this last night. my thoughts:

if you pretend this is a work of art, a revenge story supposed to rival the likes of straw dogs & taxi driver, it’s the biggest pile of shit you’ll ever see.

if you pretend this is a black comedy parodying that style of cinema, making fun of the tropes, and using joaquin’s absurd overacting as the punchline most of the time, it’s absolutely brilliant

unfortunately, listening to the director’s thoughts on the movie and looking at his track record, he is not that nuanced or ironic. he was likely setting out to make a straight up story to be taken at face value and in that sense it fails miserably.

i haven’t seen such awful overacting since michael shannon in “bug” except frankly, “bug” is better.

genuinely a 3/10 but ironically, it’s a masterpiece.

Well your 3rd is completely wrong because this character was in fact fucked by the system every single way possible.

He had clear mental illness brought on by his terrible childhood and the system basically told him “fuck yourself”

who gives a shit? this isn’t a lars von trier movie lmao it’s the sappy fake backstory of a literal comic book character

if this is the benchmark for movies about mental illnesses and disabilities, i’m not surprised. it’s the reason mainstream movies have largely gone to shit.

if joaquin wins an oscar for this, i will laugh harder than he did the whole movie
