The whole story is pretty cliche and uninspired. I feel like I've seen it a hundred times before. Phoenix was fantastic though and I thought his performance really elevates the film from like a 4/10 to a 6.5/7.

It's not really fair to compare Phoenix to Ledger though since Phoenix really only give like 20 minutes of true Joker and Ledger got an entire film. That being said the last 20 minutes of the film was great and I thought Phoenix was an amazing Joker.

Because it goes against his characteristics shown throughout the film

Sophie was a stranger to him

All the killings are shown and they are all straight forward.

They didn't show anything because he didn't do anything
What about the psychologist at the end of the film? That wasn't straight forward, or shown, and she did nothing wrong. Seems pretty reasonable to assume that he could have killed Sophie and her kid for feeling betrayed by her.

The absolute STATE of WOKE CULTURE

SATURDAY AM UPDATE: The weekend's new releases are performing mostly as expected, but before we get to them we have to mention WB's Joker, which brought in an estimated $17 million on Friday, to kick off what is looking like a possible $60 million second weekend, signaling a drop that could be less than -40%. A strong performance and a clear sign this film is resonating with audiences.

It was less straight forward but still pretty straight forward

Them showing the bloody footprints is pretty much showing us the kill

I mean the implication of the flashing lights isn't as straight forward as bloody footprints but it's still something. I don't get why killing her isn't against his characteristics, but killing Sophie is though.

The therapist from the end of the movie is the same therapist from the beginning IIRC

The one who would never listen

"You don't listen, do you? You just ask the same questions every week"

There is definitely context to why Arthur killed her

I wouldn't say that's exactly grounds for killing somebody. It's not like Sophie ever listened or paid attention to him either.

I'm not saying he did or he didn't kill her anyway. I just think it's heavily up for interpretation, and I definitely feel like in his head there would be reason to kill her, just like the therapist.

This was one of the more unrealistic scenes. They wouldn't leave a psycho like Joker alone with a psychiatrist like that. He'd be chained up and there would be guards on duty.

I will also say that by the very end of the movie Arthur has turned into full on Joker

So perhaps his morals have changed by this point

But when he was with Sophie there was still some Arthur Fleck left

Wow did you write the movie

I don't big-up films that often. But i find myself totally excited at the prospect of owning the Blu-Ray of this masterpiece when it is out (Feb 2020)

Easily the best film I've seen in the past 10 years, I love it.

I rarely feel the urge to rewatch film, if I do, then its probably either really dumb fun or a masterpiece. This movie is not dumb fun.

Good point but even after the realisation that

the relationship wasn’t real, if he did in fact realise that at all

His plan still seemed to be

shooting himself on the show

So I just don’t see that as a option at all

If I had to use one sentence to describe this film it would be ‘if ken loach directed ‘you were never really here’ with a DC licence and Gaspar Noe as a advisor’.

It’s a very grim movie

I could have

My skill in breaking down film is amazing I know

Seriously tho, I don't think anything I've said is really that far out
Other than thinking the social worker was the same woman as the ho a sho at the end.

I thought it might be, but they're played by different people. Sharon Washington as "Social Worker" and April Grace as "Arkham Psychiatrist"
