We want a younger joker. Let's go with Leo he is 3 years younger.

It depends. This is set in the Batman universe but they're radically changing the characters and introducing a lot of Batman villains that should not exist at that point in time, not to mention giving young Bruce Wayne an entirely new backstory that's unnecessary and cringey to watch. So if you can ignore those elements, the show is somewhat entertaining (begrudgingly).

There's no Joker in Gotham so far.

lol this sounds horrible.

lol, good luck with that WB. Now we know why they hired Scorsese.

DC will never get it.

Casting different actors constantly in the same role kills the consistency of the product, and this compounds DC's "establishment problems." They have absolutely no clue how to establish characters.

Can you imagine if there was a different Iron Man in the trilogy than the one in the AVENGERS films, and then another actor playing Iron Man in a rebooted origin story?
Yes. They should just recast Ledger. Played the best Joker.

They should let Leto play the joker but not make him have to do that tattoos and gold teeth etc

I don't get why they sabotage themselves like this. They put out those images of Leto as the joker and everyone hated it, then WB backpeddled and said "no that's not really what he's going to look like, these are just teaser/concept images" or whatever. So they were fully aware everyone hated that joker look but then did it anyways

Leto is a good actor who really is committing to giving 100% effort to the role. Just let him be a classic joker

Warner Bros. Wants Class, Cachet and Maybe Leonardo DiCaprio for JOKER Movie

Jared Leto Displeased with the Idea of Multiple Jokers

enQdTAn.jpg

When news broke last week that Warner Bros. is developing a movie detailing the origin story of Batman nemesis The Joker , many were surprised to see the name Martin Scorsese listed among the producers.

After all, why would the 74-year old auteur filmmaker behind everything from Taxi Driver to Silence be interested in making the kind of studio franchise fare he has avoided throughout his career? And why would Warners executives, as brand managers of the extended DC Comics cinematic universe, want a legendarily controlling and free-spending talent involved in its marquee property?

The answer involves a plan worthy of The Joker himself. Sources say Warners will make an ambitious attempt to use Scorsese to bring Leonardo DiCaprio into the world of comic-book movies. Certainly, Scorsese’s involvement inThe Joker film, which The Hangover filmmaker Todd Phillips would direct, could elevate and diversify the studio's contributions to the genre, creating the potential to make awards-worthy films such as Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy.

There's no offer for DiCaprio, and sources say Scorsese's deal to produce isn't even done yet. The chances of landing DiCaprio could be slim to none. But the attempt in itself sends a signal to talent that Warners wants to hire serious filmmakers to make serious films.

This plan was not met with applause in all quarters: Insiders say Jared Leto, the actor who portrayed the Clown Prince of Crime in last summer's Suicide Squad and is slated to reprise the character not just for a sequel but for another spinoff movie (with DC villainess Harley Quinn), was caught off-guard by the plans. Leto is said to have made his displeasure with the notion of multiple Jokers known to his CAA agents, and rival agency WME has been using the concern to court him.

Warner Bros. launched its DC Extended Universe to compete with Marvel Studios with 2013’s Man of Steel. The movies have included the poorly reviewed Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad as well as this summer’s well-received Wonder Woman, which was seen as finally correcting a wobbly series. The movies have a through-line not just of stories but also actors, making them part of a superhero universe.

Now, however, Warners wants to branch off with stand-alone movies that are unconnected to that version of the DC world. The new movies will have non-traditional takes on the heroes and villains of DC, and hopefully, attract actors and filmmakers who don’t typically toil in the comic-book movie world. War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves is developing a Batman stand alone that, according to sources, will not star Ben Affleck, who plays the caped crusader in the DC Universe movies (Warners and Affleck have denied he is being replaced). The plan is to launch a separate label for these projects to distinguish them from the rest of the DC films. (Warners executives are acutely aware of the risks of audience confusion.)

ForJoker, which could be the initial entry for the label, sources say the studio and Phillips would want DiCaprio or another A-lister to play the character as a gritty crime boss in a Scorsese-esque Gotham underworld.

DiCaprio, 42, has become the most in-demand actor in Hollywood despite refusing to star in traditional franchise pictures. Instead, he has limited his collaborators to A-list directors of (generally) original screenplays, including James Cameron (Titanic), Christopher Nolan (Inception) and Alejandro G. Inarritu (The Revenant, for which he won his Oscar).

But his most frequent collaborator has been Scorsese. The duo has made five successful films together over two decades: The Aviator, Gangs of New York, The Departed, Shutter Island and The Wolf of Wall Street.

One conduit between Phillips and Scorsese/DiCaprio is actor Jonah Hill, who starred in Phillips’ War Dogs but worked with DiCaprio in Scorsese’s Wolf of Wall Street.

The Joker Movie: Warner Bros. Wants Class, Cachet and Maybe Leonardo DiCaprio

Guess DC is following their animated movies strategy, re-inventing their continuity every now and then, with independent projects out of that continuity.

I mean, i can appreciate them not following the exact same path as Marvel, but i really doubt this will turn out well. And how many chances to the guys in charge of those decisions get from the real guys in charge??

Also, i can respect Leto not being happy with this move. Even though i don't like his interpretation, he wants to be this generations' Nicholson or Ledger. He has 2 additional movie appearances scheduled in this character (which is 2 more than Nicholson or Ledger), giving him time to flesh out the character (or make up for that gangsta crap in Suicide squad) and now DC is like "but wait, there's more".

Fuck an origin story. Joker just IS. I don't want to see him as a damn kid, much less being bullied.

Now I'm all for an alternate universe Joker and if I had my pick it'd be Max Williams of Bullet In The Face before he gets any older.

Jared Leto Says He's Also Confused About Warner Bros.' Dual Joker Plans

Recently, ODE had a chance to speak with Jared Leto at a launch event for Destiny 2. It was there the actor commented on DC’s Joker films and his involvement. When asked if he will be part of the Joker/Harley Quinn spinoff, Leto said he thought he was involved.

“I think so,” Leto said. “I’m a little confused too. There are a couple of things happening in the DC world.”

Darren Aronofsky Says JOKER Origin Movie Sounds Very Similar to His BATMAN Pitch

tpwDkwd.jpg

In a new interview to promote his upcoming film Mother, which stars Mystique actress Jennifer Lawrence, Aronofsky was asked about his Batman pitch and if the studio rejected it because they felt it was too dark.

"You know what, I think it's finally... I think we were basically, whatever it is, fifteen years too early. Because I hear the way they’re talking about the Joker movie and that's exactly – that was my pitch."

"I was like: we're going to shoot in East Detroit and East New York. We're not building Gotham. The Batmobile – I wanted to be a Lincoln Continental with two bus engines in it... With two bus engines, all duct taped together. It was the duct tape MacGyver Batman."

In addition, Aronofsky believes that elements/ideas from his script made their way into Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as his film also featured a Bruce Wayne who branded wrongdoers.

"Some of my ideas got out there through other films. Like the ring with "BW", Bruce Wayne's ring making the scar was our idea and I think that was in Zack [Snyder's] or something. Which is fine, you write these ideas and they get out. "

"We were all about reinventing it and trying to make it more Taxi Driver visceral. That was the whole pitch. But the toy people were like, 'Oh it can't be a Lincoln Continental, you have to make a Batmobile.'"

Your ideas sound bad and you should feel bad that you had them in the first place.

Whatever happens to your ideas you better be sure you do the same to the work of others, every big studio/production does it.

this sounds fucking retarded.

why don't we have james cameron and Adam Mckay team up to make a solo Dr Doom movie.

just because something seems like a good idea doesn't mean it is.

If they followed The Killing Joke it might be ok unless they tried adding extra flash to it.
You mean like how they did the Killing Joke animation? WB cartoons are on point, but the whole added backstory was bunk.

I actually don't think it's a horrible idea in and of itself. The problem is the timing.
The DC world is hardly established yet. The Joker hasn't been really introduced yet. How do you simultaneously have 2 different movies planned based on the SAME character? And there are going to be comparisons. What if people like Leo's Joker better? It can hurt Leto's. He should have a chance to make his own character.

After a few Justice League and solo DC movies, THEN they could do these spinoff, standalone movies.
I actually like the idea, they just have to brand them right to let the audience know that these aren't within the normal DC universe. It wouldn't be that hard.
Logan didn't feel like it was part of the Xmen movie universe to me..felt like a different story, and that worked out great

Joaquin Phoenix in Talks to Play the Joker in Standalone Movie from Todd Phillips

bSW9BxI.jpg

Joaquin Phoenix is the top choice to play the Joker in the upcoming stand-alone movie from The Hangover director Todd Phillips.

Phillips will direct the movie from a script he is co-writing with Scott Silver, the scripter behind 8 Mile and The Fighter. While plot details are largely unknown, the stand-alone is supposed to be set in Gotham City in the early 1980s.

The film is being developed by Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment as part of a label of films that can exist outside of the continuity of its shared universe — such as Wonder Woman, Justice League, Batman v Superman, and Man of Steel. Joker is already a part of the existing universe, with Jared Leto starring as the classic villain in 2016's Suicide Squad.

This isn't the first time Phoenix has entertained the idea of super hero movie.

The three-time Oscar nominee was offered the role of DC villain Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman, and was in talks to playDoctor Strangefor Marvel. Ultimately, he passed on both projects, meaning that his participation in Phillips' Joker movie is not a sure thing.

In September, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Warner Bros. was courting Leonardo DiCaprio for the Joker movie.

Phoenix will next be seen in Gus Van Sant's Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot, based on the memoir of late cartoonist John Callahan. The film just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He is also set for the Annapurna western The Sisters Brothers.
