Media Joe Rogan says Tom Aspinall may NEVER fight again after getting eye surgery

Did you purposely leave out the part where Joe says if the surgery doesn't go through well?

Not that it really matters, but what Joe said was meaningless as it's obvious he won't fight again if the surgery doesn't go well.

I'd be interested to see Pereira fight for the HW belt.

There's always waves and cycles with the talent, but yeah obviously 155-170 has been much more talented than anything heavier. 125 seems like a stretch to me. Maybe it's because there's zero name value or marketing, but it doesn't seem to be on the same level as 135-155. The LHW division was pretty stacked not so long ago with Jones, Cormier, Rumble, Gus/Davis/Glover, old guard, etc. Now it sucks, sure. But I think WW also sucks right now too, prior to Islam moving up and post-GSP/Usman eras, it's pretty much ass. We went from Leon Edwards to Belal Muhammad to JDM as champions, three journey men basically. Then a LW came up and smoked em.

WW is clearly better than Usman era, I urge you to re-evaluate. The Masvidal/Till/Burns/Leon era of contenders was a weaker one than it is now, obviously. Usman and Colby jerking each other off in rematches that were close. Yeah, safe to say Garry, Shavkat, Islam, Morales types are kinda just better. Colby always sucked. Masvidal was a LW who ran out of options and ate too much taco bell. Till was awful. Burns another LW who found a resurgence at 170.

But I agree that 170lbs in the UFC isnt the best, outside of it? Its pretty good I have my eyes on a lot of talent. PFL has a pretty good 170lb division too. But at 185 and up theres just painfully little talent. 125lbs has loads of talent too, just a lot of young guys with extensive combat sports backgrounds, amateur careers in MMA that are now pro and winning with active fighting schedules in their early 20s. You do not find that level of talent often at 185lbs and up.

Getting him out of the way clears a BIG $$$ fight for the Whitehouse

Jones vs Gane 2
Jones vs Pereira
Peiriera vs Gane
Yea I specifically believe the UFC is angling for Jones vs Pereira. There's no way they make that fight for an interim title (if the fight does happen).

The laughable side of this...

Cyril Gane getting ANOTHER gifted title shot.

Tom at least earned his singular shot.

The HW division is such a joke.
The champ ducked the interim champ to win a belt from a guy who never held any belt.

The interim champ gets shit on for chasing the actual hw title. Gets poked into having it stripped and gifted to a gatekeeper (with world record hw title shots without a single win).

Fans over chanting "usa" and supporting this white house nonsense. Now it's time to gift Cyril a bmf belt to legitimatize Jones.

His left eye was open and was visibly poked yet his right eye was closed and looked to take ZERO damage yet his right eye is the one that needs surgery...

Salsa boy Costa's eye took more damage and he's still FIGHTING and WINNING....DC's had the absolute worst POKE (got surgery after too) and his eye has NEVER looked or been the same yet he STILL went on to fight Stipe BLIND and lose

The whole thing is very bizarre. Tom is no doubt still looking like quite the bitch. He was losing that fight to Gane regardless of getting poked...takedown stuffed and bleeding before the poke.

How is Gane an important fighter in a White House fight?
He would be the B side for sure but it is a viable option for a Jon Jones HW title fight.
(If Tom vacated or is stripped)

Given the landscape and the lack of male US champions plus Jones openly kissing Trump's ass, I could see that fight being made under the right circumstances.

My guess is that there will be 0 surgeries.
Already was one, so if you want to bet, then just send me some money

This feels like a real captain obvious moment.

"If surgery goes bad it won't be good"

No shit, joe
I feel like the thread title needs to specify the hypothetical that Joe is giving so everyone knows not to take it seriously.

Surgery has a level of risk. Any surgery can go bad, and that fighter's career is in jeopardy.

Tom Aspinall's time as a fighter could very well be over, if Russia nukes England.

(cannot reply directly for some reason)- Can u give me any legitimate source/info regarding what surgery or procedure exactly he underwent? It was just laser procedure...right?

If it was just some laser stuff, that still fits the bill. Its called Laser eye surgery.

It can be called minor, sure, but is a surgery

Right I totally agree that there's far more talent at 125-135-145-155-170 and then there's a dramatic fall-off once we get to 185-205-225+

Obviously, there are just not that many human beings overall globally or even in NA that are 200+ to 250+ lbs that are also athletic and skilled. Specifically in NA those top tier athletes tend to go into football, basketball, boxing, etc, over MMA. And then further, there's less training partners to be had across all martial arts/forms when you're bigger, and they can rely on size/strength over skill, etc.

Disagree about WW though. I did say prior to Islam moving up, if you want to count that as a cop out that's fine but I specified. Either way, he's a LW as well. Shavkat I'll give you. Even then, who's he beaten exactly? I think you're totally pumping up the current WW roster. If you don't like Colby Covington because of political reasons and him being a douchebag, fine, but he was good. Not great. Right now the 3rd ranked WW is Ian Garry, come on.

I'll take - Rory, Condit, Lawler, Woodley, Usman, Burns (almost beat Khamzat at WW), Covington, Edwards, Stephen Thompson, Maia, RDA, toss in your Chiesa/Magny/Masvidal too. Over the current crop at WW. Shavkat seems dominant, Morales is explosive, Garry is solid, you got Prates too. A LW jumped up and won the belt of JDM. But it's just a lot of journeyman esque talent or utterly unproven talent like Shavkat and Morales. Their best combined wins are Neil Magny, Geoff Neal, a 40+ year old Stephen Thompson, and Sean Brady.

I was omitting Islam. But even with him there, the division sucks. If Khamzat could make weight and fight there hypothetically + Islam is there, then we're talking because there's high end talent. As of right now there's Islam, Shavkat possibly, and a bunch of journeymen.

We just have to disagree then because I don't think WW is particularly talented at all right now and it's extremely shallow.

@Mohawk Banditó

Not truth at all. Its not kind of surgery what Joe Rogan was talking about. The kind of surgery he was talking about is surgery where they implant u new lens or need to cut around cornea, etc... You can go home 1-2 hours, or even earlier after Lasik...and basically anyone can get it. Thats also why i mentioned that it will be laser procedure if anything, not invasive surgery.

BTW Brown syndrome cannot be treated by laser recording to ai and google research.

Rogan just talks, it doesn't mean he knows what he's talking about

Laser eye surgery is surgery, no matter how much you want to call it not a surgery. You'll find that MOST surgeries are procedures you can leave the same day.

What kind of surgery u had when u was able to leave same day? Like anytime u go under full anesthesia u have to stay atleast 24 hours - even after light surgeries like extractions...

Was once released few hours after surgery, but it was only because i knew doctor which made surgery personally + It was local anethesia and i talked with him and his colleague meanwhile he extracted nails and wires from my leg.- If i didn't knew him i would have to stay 24 hours minimal...

Good riddance. We got to get rid of these pussies who only fight once a year and hold up the division.
