Interview with one of his trainers (Translated with

How exactly did Jiří Procházka's injury occur during training?
"It was a normal sparring, we had everything covered. It happened last Thursday, we wanted to do some more wrestling practice. So we chose an opponent that was adequate, that suited Jirka. A decent guy, a wrestler, not a nutcase. Because we really wanted to eliminate injuries. Unfortunately, the unfortunate coincidence happened that Jirka fell on his shoulder from behind during one throw. All of a sudden, there's a terrible scream. Jiri was startled and in pain. His shoulder was dislocated, thrown forward forty-five degrees. We immediately put him on a chair and with one of Ankalaev's team members we threw the shoulder back. Then we immediately went to the UFC Performance Institute to try to activate it."
In what way?
"Cryotherapy, rehabilitation, acupuncture needles, electrotherapy were tried to revive the shoulder. It was starting to move around, he didn't have a big hematoma there. The arm was mobile at all angles, but only with assistance. The rehab and physiotherapy at the UFC Performance Institute is really perfect, they have the most up-to-date methods and technology, so we've been trying to get it all sorted out. The problem was that his arm just wouldn't lift in front of him and to the side. Only with assistance. So we started to address other things, which included an MRI, which showed what it showed - he had torn ligaments. That led to the decision that we needed to say we're not going to go into the fight. We waited for Martin (Prochazka's other trainer, who flew to Las Vegas later due to work commitments) to tell us. We also communicated with Tim Simpson of Paradigm Sports (the agency representing Prochazka and other UFC stars). And we worked out everything with the whole team before it was made public. Of course, everything was fine-tuned directly with the UFC as well."
How did you experience the whole situation directly?
"It was difficult for me. Because we are fighters, the whole team, we were determined to go into the fight until the last moment. As it happened, we told ourselves: We've got three weeks... If it was just bruised, we would have got it together and gone for it. But it turned out the way it did."
What do you think of the UFC's decision?
"I'm a little puzzled about it, but at the end of the day, the outcome of the meeting is meaningful. It makes sense to all sides. And Jiri's decision is honorable because nobody wants to give up a title. But we'll go back for it!"
You, coach Martin Karaivanov and Jiri Procházka have really gelled over the years. What is the atmosphere like in the team now?
"The mood in our trio is still great. We are professionals and we deal with things as they are. Of course we were upset and disappointed, but we take it as it is and face the situation head on."
Are you trying to relax in any way? After all, you're in Las Vegas.
"That we would go somewhere to relax and have a day off, no. We're here for work. The fact that it's disrupted, the fact that there's no fight, it means another priority, to make Jiri as comfortable as possible in terms of those rehabs and so we continue to practice. We really have all the resources at our disposal here. So we haven't given up on anything and started living a different life. That doesn't exist. There are just other responsibilities."
