*yawn*

You're having a cryfest over a douche like Kimmel so spare me the pomposity.

Nobody cares at all about Kimmel, and if the show was canceled because Kimmel alienated members of the viewer base, that's fine.

We're pointing out that if he was canceled as the result of government pressure, that is clearly and specifically a first amendment issue. Assuming that was the case, do you disagree? I don't need you to say that WAS the case, consider this an abstract hypothetical.

I'm not asking you to cross the impenetrable partisan divide, I'm looking for your honest opinion on that possibility. Clearly expressed.

Add trevor noah and Stewart along with oliver. Punch them and fire them all...

from what I have seen of Stewart he's a lot less insufferable- his passionate speeches on veteran's welfare can't be denied- and Noah, a least a bit less insufferable, than Kimmel or Colbert.

And British oliver??

The Biden administration was doing this to conservatives. Facebook even admitted they were being forced to do so.
They weren't being forced though and didn't have to go through with what they did. Look at Facebook now that Zuck got rid of the majority of content moderation It is a f'n cesspool of bots, fake posts, Ai bullshit, and other nonsense

Yeah, take it from a vehement, frothing-at-the-mouth hater of Jimmy Kimmel. I seriously, absolutely cannot stand that fuck.

But, what you posted is true. It wasn't eloquent, but that's a pretty fucked up line to cancel someone over.

This is a kid. While I'm not going to forgive his cold-blooded murdering, the world often holds much more nuance.

I am at a cross-roads, to be honest. I am pretty pro-gun, but am starting to wonder about the culture around it. I used to be one of those 'Guns don't kill people, people kill people'. Starting to wonder if humans don't hold the mental fortitude that I had expected, especially with their impressionable children.

I haven't watched a single episode of the show in its entirety since he took over. There's nothing on late night that you can't get better on youtube or other social media sites in terms of access to celebrities and movie/tv news.

The MAGA people are the ones lying here, and they're happy to lie because they don't like how critical Kimmel has been of Trump over the years. It's that simple.

I do agree what he said wasn't the most eloquent and left it open to misinterpretation, but they are deliberately misinterpreting things because they like the result and don't like him.

All he was saying was that MAGA was more concerned with pointing fingers than anything else, and that is just the honest truth.

Eh, Jimmy Kimmel is a mouth-breather. No love lost, there.
Stupid, hot take that he probably should have thought out more? Yeah.
Was it even him, with that hot take, or did he take his marching orders from someone else? Probably.
Did he deserved canceled? Absolutely not.

I mean, are we as outraged by Trump's family posting pictures of whitey-tighties next to a hammer? Or saying we should provide lethal injections to homeless people?

The pot and kettle and all that. Maybe it's time for both sides to reconsider their rhetoric.

Holy shit, honest debate. Interested to see the response. Good post.

That was particularly venomous of Kimmel. How can anyone have sympathy for him?
He was a scumbag in the early 2000’s and he’s a scumbag today.

kimmel in a good position here. Will probably sue abc and the govt.

Maybe. There’s likely strong language in his contract about public speech that reflects on the show etc and arbitration clauses instead of going to court.

I think to Chris Harrison getting fired from the bachelor for his comments and then getting a payday and never speaking on it again. Though Kimmel seems more political so we’ll see if he takes the pay out or fights

Two completely independent companies pulled Kimmel's show from all their affiliate stations before ABC Productions suspended the show. I don't think it has as much to do with "muh trump and FCC" as you think.
Sinclair Broadcasting even said they WANTED the FCC to investigate and regulate this, suspended his show, demanded Kimmel apologize, and will now instead be holding a Charlie Kirk Special during Kimmel's slot.

None of these people complaining about Kimmel want to discuss the fact that the broadcasters themselves want MORE to be done over his comments. Firing him was the least they're demanding.

The company has the right to not platform Kimmel if they choose not to.

I think he is more concerned that the fed govt was instrumental in getting him removed from the air. If the quotes from Carr about threats to pull the license to force abc to punish kimmel are true, it’s a slam dunk case imo.

If it’s true that it was because the FCC threatened them, that’s clearly unconstitutional.

On the other hand, corporations and banks have been cancelling people for a long time now, and in the US they seem to be just as powerful as the government if not more so in many cases, or one in the same. So in reality a bank or a corporation being able to black list you is just as dangerous as the government doing so in my opinion. Also many government officials are in the pockets of corporations or banks, so it’s really one in the same.

I don't watch Kimmel but what he said was quite tame compared to saying we should euthanize homeless people...

The most delicious irony is that Kimmel actually made fun of Trump for basically the same thing the right has been crying about since last week: not mourning Kirk's death enough.

Fascists don't care though. Their guy shows power and dominance and they get a hard on.
