Might want to remind overeem thenIf JDS loses to Rothwell, he's finished.
Depends on what you mean by impressive beating Stipe is very impresive if you ask me regardless of how you do it. Stipe has looked like a beast lately and that win for JDS looks really good. In his last fight is the first time I wasn't impressed by JDS. He looked slow, confused, and was barely even attacking. He was just walking forward and eating punches pretty much never really attacking.
It's been a long time since I've seen the JDS/Stipe fight, and I probably should re-watch it, but I remember thinking Stipe got the better of JDS overall. Neither guy was overly impressive, but I thought Stipe had it on aggression and generally did more to win.
But I'm still surprised this fight was made. They already ruined AA's chances for title shot nostalgia with giving him a young & hungry big guy in Stipe. Now they're doing the same to another veteran with a resurgence. Younger, faster, stronger. IMO, AA should've gotten the title shot already, as should Ben.
I don't think JDS is a good comparison to GSP(or Lombard really they are much more well rounded, Ellenberger would be a better comparison IMO) and Shields beat multiple elite fighters in his run but GSP and Lombard were just too well rounded for him and had the skill set to keep it where they wanted.
Rothwell is 34, JDS is 32.
I mean their paths with a skillset that should mean losses against top competition. Jardine had some pretty big upsets as well. It sometimes happens. Watching Rothwell fight, I don't see anything indicative to him stretching this win streak much further.
Yeah, but Rothwell's been ironmanning since 01, and faced tough competition early on, while JDS beat some local fighters (along with Mondragon) in 06/07 and then came to the UFC. The point is though that JDS is a much better athlete closer to his physical prime.
