It's October... Halloween/Horror Movies

The Void, 2016

Body horror with practical effects instead of CGI.

You get a like for having a boss av but I prefer cheesy slasher flicks from the '80s to watch around Halloween. Gotta love stupid movies where everybody is dumb as fuck and there is a chick running around with her titties out.

Fucking thank you. My wife loves all those old movies. Every time they’re on, I don’t want to watch them and she says “but it’s a classic”. It’s just a bunch of dudes in suits talking really fast.

I do like the Thin Man movies though. Those are great.

Your talking more classic Hollywood there though, elsewhere things had shifted quite considerably, more realistic acting and less over dependence on dialog. I wouldn't say any of the choices he listed from the 60's are really along those kinds of lines.

Kwaidan is deliberately a bit larger than life I spose but not in that fashion, also not your standard horror film, its also one of the best looking films ever made.

I made a list of lesser known movies I'm going to randomly select this month. Something different from the normal halloween movies I watch every year. Starting from the oldest to the newest.

I've stated a million times on here I was not a big movie guy, so I was more than surprised to even know of any of these, but ''The Burning'' was deemed a UK ''Video Nasty'' and was the talk of the playground when I was at school.

I don't care what you say, I like it. A kid basically goes trick or treating with a serial killer. WTF else do you want?

Who's the blonde?

I tracked down dvds of Arachnophobia and the original Stepfather. Its about the same price as renting VOD and nice to have these, you never see stuff like this on Netflix or Prime. Arachnophobia has aged very well. Stepfather there's not much to it but Terry Oquinn puts in one of my favorite performances
I like Arachnophobia, but if you like spider movies (but hate spiders like me!) give Kingdom Of Spiders a try. It's almost unbearable to watch if you squeamish over spiders (Plus it has Bill Shatner!)
Step Father is awesome, the second one is pretty good as well, but the first is a stellar thriller. Terry O'Quinn is a great actor and was perfect in that role

I remember not liking Halloween 4-5 very much back in the day, felt like they were watered down wannabe Friday 13th movies with half the charm/humor and none of the tits. But I just finished part 4 on blu ray and really enjoyed it, it's way better than I remembered. Only thing I didn't like was how Michael looked, from his build to his mask he just looked off and weird in this whole movie.
I just watched 4 again last night, I remember not liking it last time out but I think it's because that little kid turns mute and is annoying as fuck in the 5th one. But yeah, 4 is actually a fun movie.
And I agree about Michael Myers, my first reaction when you get to see him in all his glory was 'what the fuck, that mask looks shit'. I know they lost the mask after number 2 (or someone took it to keep) but they should have made more effort to get a better one

Damn how many Howling movies did they make?! I need to watch through them all sometime I remember we used to rent the fuck out of them when I was a kid, haven't seen any of them in fucking forever.

I've never seen or heard of Wolfen but that poster is fucking sweet.
I think 1 & 2 are related movies, then 3 to 6 are just stand alone werewolf movies, and I believe there was a Reborn done some years later but I never watched it. First is still really good fun.

Wolfen is amazing, it's a proper movie, not just a regular horror. Has decent actors and script as well. Well worth a watch

In the Original 'Hitcher' they drive right through my city, 29 Palms. The infamous finger in the food diner scene is at Roy's Café in Amboy

They also filmed much of Hills Have Eyes 2 out here as well. Parts of Tremors, etc...

also if you don't know it, the YT channel Dead Meat does pretty solid horror movie reviews and kill counts, mainly it just has really good editing and the main narrator is decently funny

I just bought KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS on Blu-ray back in July. It was always a favorite of mine back when I was a kid plus I had to have it because it was filmed right here in Sedona where I'm living now. So, it's cool to watch it & see all the scenes that were shot right in my neighborhood.

That's so cool. Like you, I live somewhere that has been used many, many times over the years for location shoots. Back in the day, it was mostly westerns but as I pointed out in my previous post, KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS was filmed here in my neighborhood as was John Carpenter's STARMAN.

I always like the scenery in the Wraith, filmed mostly in Vail and Tuscon, Az

They have this place near me called Pioneertown, it was used for filming old stuff and is still fully in tact. Gene Autry, Roy Rogers type ish

That's awesome man, have you ever been hunting for relics or shit left behind by the filming crews?

Brialliant, they cleaned up that big ass web at the end then?!

I remember reading that the crew painted tarantulas over the fascias of all the stores in the town, and though most were painted over you could see many of them for years.

Wonder if there are any still visible?

Awesome exploitation movie as well

Has someone mentioned Slumber Party Massacre yet. Fun little exploitation movie.

And the sequel has a cool musical number

Yes and no, much of the areas are remote so it's hard to get the exact location. I had this problem while trying to find the original sets of Tremors, near Olanche and Lone Pine

I did rent cars to the main stars of Entourage, while they were out here filming the mushrooms episode at JTNP. I worked at ERaC then

also if people don't know the Diner from that scene in The Hitcher, is the exact same one from the Hero music video by Enrique Iglesias haha

There must be loads of movies filmed in that area, I never been to the desert man, I almost did once by accident in Australia but I woke up before I traveled too far!

oh most def
just look for these:
Joshua_trees.jpg

Joshua Trees are endemic to the Mojave Desert, so if you see these anywhere in a movie, it's a good bet it's filmed at least somewhat near me
a staggering amount of Car commercials are filmed here

Speaking of horror movies filmed where you live, I used to live in the town where the original The Town That Dreaded Sundown was filmed. Oddly enough its the same town where the real life murders happened that the movie was based on. We lived across the street from the building that was the high school in the movie they would have had the camera in our front yard to get that shot of the building.

I never knew any of this until Scream came out when we were living there, they referenced that movie and I found it at blockbuster, mind was blown.
