Since it seems no one else shared
Same when GSP won it in Canada. Rather him or some random hockey player..the choice were him or a random rugby player
Can't describe how big this is. When I was a kid, Halbergs were won by rowers, sailors, All Blacks. We barely knew what MMA was, but it wasn't a legit sport. Izzy wouldn't have even been nominated back then. Stylebender didn't win the Supreme award, but the takeover is on.
This is monumental achievement actually, since majority of people there think MMA is barbarism.
Ali-esque; transcending sport to bridge social divides.

This is great news actually.
It means that MMA is in the mainstream in NZ.
In Poland Joanna wasn't even in the news when she won the belt.
Sport journo from Sydney writes:
Someone’s letting their Izzy hate block the bigger pictureBecause WHAT would the world do without New Zealand’s approval of MMA?!?!?
According to Kiwis someone better nominate Izzy for a Nobel Peace Prize while we’re at it amirite?
There’s more than one Athlete from New Zealand?

There was more athletic ability on display from the All Blacks in their losing effort in 2019's Rugby world cup than the entire history of NFL.
He won sportsman award in a country that doesn't recognize his sport. He beat the system, not just competition.Because WHAT would the world do without New Zealand’s approval of MMA?!?!?
