Hot Take Islam's resume is overrated af!!!

he's a small LW and that fight made 0 sense, especially the "remaTch"

that's retarded as fuck, counting that as a legitimate LW title defense is even more so retarded.
He’s not a small LW, he walks around 180 pounds, that’s almost the same as Colby’s walk around weight and he’s a WW.

Also the gap from FW to LW is the smallest of all weight classes, just 6,9% of body weight. That’s one of the reasons while so most of the champs and top contenders are former FW or have moved down to FW ( Topuria, Oliviera, Conor, Dustin, Max, Frankie, Pettis, BJ, Gilbert, Florian, Hooker, Barboza). Also the current champ Topuria is a former FW and the same size as Volk.

It’s really one of those rare fights that deserved a rematch as most fans thought Volk won.

Dude, you’re really dense.

4 times in Islam's last 8 fights, his opponent pulled out forcing a short notice replacement. Taking the short notice replacement and finishing them in the first round is the best thing a fighter can do in this situation and this is what Islam did all 4 times.

The fact that you’re trying to discredit Arman shows that your only goal is to downplay Makhachev’s success.
To be fair, Arman was only 22 years old when they fought, 5 years younger than Islam who had also been a pro for 5 more years. It's a good win, but it's not the same as beating current day Arman.

"Most fans" lol they're fans, they have biases. Volk was the more popular fighter of the two at the time & he was credited for performing well going up in weight as well as finishing strong in the 5th round.

He didn't win three rounds and that's not controversial.

"Everyone ducks or won't fight Islam unless perfect conditions" >> "resume sucks"

People don't like to talk about the ducking in this sport, but Islam or Khabib had so many better names that refused to book a fight while they were low ranked, then after they became champ the same names couldn't earn a title shot.

Wish rankings just silently shifted positions for turning down fights or something. Because there's plenty of fighters that sit around for the right matchup to come along and sign it. Since all those talks are hidden under NDAs, we have no idea what's going on behind the scenes.

Islam only clearly won 2 rounds. Volk outstruck him

It was a extremely close fight, so rematch was warranted

That's more of a myth then reality. Khabib and Islam turned down/pulled out of fights and avoided not perfect conditions as much if not more than anyone.
There's a reason these guy have never stepped in to fill for someone else getting injured.

I give it a rating of 42 cause i like that number. Seems like a good rating to me. Not overrated or underrated at all. 42 out of what? i havn't decided. I don't think that part matters as much.

All you can do is beat the top guys in front of you. Criticizing that is just plain dumb
Personally i'd rather see them beat more guys overall even if it means the not top guys behind you. 1 sided beatdowns are entertaining. And even more entertaining when something shocking happens and the underdog wins. More fights, more fun. When u wait for the top fights to happen. U end up with years of inactivity just to end in a stupid eyepoke and more inactivity or even worse. endless rematches.

That's true, especially Khabib. I think it was such a brutal training regiment and weight cut he only could do it for a short career, whatever shit he said afterwards why he had to leave early because his dad, I'm sure he wouldn't have stayed longer either way. Even dialed in he wasn't that active of a fighter.

Islam is more consistent now though, he hasn't pulled out since 2020 and had 4 opponents afterwards pull out. He still does his usual 2x a year. Islam pulled out 3x from 2016-2019 though. Looking at tapology always gives you an interesting story.

Nobody even said it was the same.

how many times did volk fight in the UFC LW division?

your insults mean nothing, because you're fucking retarded.

undeserved, BS, non weight class title defense against a FW.

dumbass.

I agree, he's one of those fighters who is actually great, but not anywhere close to where people think he is.

Islams best wins:

1. Volk 1 - Barely won against a champion from below his weight class who Islam had the advantage on in nearly every measurable, by all accounts Volk had the more impressive performance despite a close decision loss.

2. Charles Do Bronx - Decisive win against one of the better LW's of all time, Charles is arguably a top 5 LW ever.

3. JDM - Went up a weight class to defeat the champion, except JDM may very well be one of the most fraudulent champions in recent years. Easily the worst #1 rated UFC fighter today. JDM might not even be top 5 at WW, with multiple guys like Shavkat, Ian Garry, Morales, and Prates all able to defeat him.

It's almost sacrilege to say this about fighters who are all the rage, but after Islam loses fans with exit the hypnosis and evaluate everything properly. This always happens when someone is hyped as this or that, remember when everyone said Volk was the #1 PFP fighter years ago?? People were running around saying Volk was better than Jon Jones, and now all of that talk has gone with the wind.

I don't even think Islam is better than Volk pound for pound, Volk admitted he was essentially in a drunken stupor when he decided to take the second Islam fight, he wasn't even in fighting shape that night.

Islam is in a similar situation to Usman, both guys are great fighters who proved they can be elite at 2 weight classes. They both have really good stats and on paper their records look great. But upon further inspection you realize they don't have the resume that fits their record and alleged standing by the fans. Both guys are locks as top 20 MMA fighters of all time, but it's easy to forget the number of great fighters who've fought way tougher competition.

Islam is lacking vital wins the same way Usman is, it's a shame the Arman rematch never happened. Islam needs 2 or 3 more elite wins to really set himself apart. For now I don't think of him as a legit top 10 all time MMA fighter, even though the media might try to convince you it's true.

Name your top10. I’ll easily prove that Islam has better top5 wins than most on that list
