his resume prior to becoming champ wasn’t that strong based on the names alone. but he looked very good in those fights. based on his performances, and his track record of winning, observers were able to rank him relative to the fighters he hasn’t yet faced. based on how he handled olives, id say they were right—he’s as good as they thought. volk gave him a tough fight, but he’s the p4p #1 fighter. he should be a tough fight.

all that said, islam hasn’t faced too many fighters at the top of his division, so there are questions about how he’d do. i think he’d beat most or all of them though.
