Yea younwould have to be adoes every social media post have to end with "lmaooo" and some laughing/crying emoji? Makes no sense
Lol. his wrists are actually strapped to the bar with nylon. It would take Islam many years to learn how to swing around a bar like that without the straps. When you have the grip strength of a gorilla this is nothing
Gymnasts are VERY strong but not anaerobically, there maximum exertion time is 90 seconds. I would argue MMA fighters are in much better anaerobic shape then top gymnasts.
Former gymnast. The three main energy systems, ATP/PC, Anaerobic and Aerobic have been studied substantially on gymnasts. They seem perfectly anaerobic to me since they're definitely not alactic or aerobic and 90s is anaerobic. Just wondering if you can explain in case you know more than me on the topic (and it sounds like you do -- are you a former gymnast?).

ATP/PC and Anaerobic glycolysis is what gymnasts rely on during there routines.
Anaerobic glycolysis is the transformation of glucose to lactate when limited amounts of oxygen are available.
Gymnasts when they are doing 10 skills routines are developing there type 2 fast twitch muscle fibers.
Its also why they train 5+ hours a session. There Aerobic increase is in between there anaerobic glycolysis routine. Essentially only gaining Aerobic capacity while not on the apparatus during recovery.
Ask a gymnast to do there routine twice in a row. It will look no where near the same as the first routine or not even a routine at all.
Even more interesting, low intensity endurance training IE jogging actually has a negative effect on developing gymnasts power-generating capacity due to reduced ability to produce force in the high-velocity region of the force-velocity curve (slow twitch efforts). Type 1 fiber development over type 2.
Gymnasts fast twitch efforts drain the energy system substantially with limited oxygen.
First time I went to a wrestling gym I realized just how little Aerobic capacity I have when I was using Maximum effort exertions in an attempt to get someone off of me.
Stiff, for sure. But uncoordinated? Maybe. I don't see it. But maybe he was just awkward enough where his timing got the best of his opponents. It's true that GSP was doing a bit of gymnastics but it's weird in a sense that he has shown to be a bit stiff and uncoordinated. Not sure what to attribute it to, but he had a hard time doing a backflip or even a spring without looking weird and stiff. I'm not even sure I ever seen him doing a clean backflip. Obviously he has all the tools to do these easily but something is missing. Obviously technique is one thing that's missing but just fluidity of motion is off when I saw him do these things.
Even boxing he was stiff as hell with them hands.
Just relax GSP.
Yea pound for pound they are incredibly strong. Spend there entire life learning how to use there own body weight as efficiently as possible. Gravity is the enemy. That's really interesting -- thanks for writing that up! I'm surprised to see they've use so much of the alactic system. I would have thought that would be their least developed system, but I'm not an expert on this stuff.
I've been interested in calisthenics for awhile and am just blown away when I see videos of real gymnasts. They're effing beasts.

Imma just leave this here:
