Is Volk the FW GOAT?

Because Ilia is a LW now and doesn't have the body of work at FW to be that divisions GOAT, he could however become the LW GOAT.

You want him to beat bots like Yair and Korean Zombie to prove he’s the GOAT?

Because he already slept Max without breaking a sweat.

Dude. 35 yo Volk in his 4th fight in a year going up and down bw weight classes and not even 4 months after a brutal KO got slept by Topuria.
Right.

Has EIGHT title fight wins, one loss at FW.
Topuria has two title fight wins at FW.

Don't act like winning six more is a done deal.
No FW would beat topuria. Everyone who Volk has beaten topuria would also dispatch

I totally agree on paper.

Still, there's a light year distance fom clearly beating any contender on paper to do it SIX TIMES (Volk has 8 title fight wins at FW, Ilia has two).
Sure sure. I get where you're coming from. But I don't think Ortega or zombie do much to him ya know?

I Wouldn't compare their achievements.

I dont agree at all, He beat max 5-0 in one fight which is unheard of no one has EVER beaten max that soundly. He also beat aldo soundly. He also beat zombie (hard to watch) Ortega and lopes soundly twice. Aldo felt more adversity against edgar I and Medes II than Volk has seen in FW. (LW exempt, of course)
He outworks people, he doesn't dominate them (except Zombie and Yair).

Most of his 5-0 decisions weren't dominance either - they were mostly competitive rounds that he pulled slightly ahead in. That's what he did again tonight.

Aldo dominated Edgar and Mendes. No adversity to speak of.

Edgar 1: 76 (mostly hard) to 60 (mostly pitter patter) strikes while also manhandling him to defend 9/11 takedowns, easily popping up on the two successful ones.

Mendes 2: 102 to 77 strikes (blowout numbers), 7/8 takedowns shrugged off.

This is the difference between them, why some still say Aldo. (I'm not one of them, I say Volk, but I can understand their point.)

Clearly. I think that we just saw the best version of Volk since the first Islam fight too. I could see that Volk beating Hand Sanitizer Boy

Many people have considered Volk the FW GOAT already, some still believe it's Aldo. I also did until this point, Volk's longevity at championship level is something else. Racking up these title wins is filling out his resume really nicely, with another win in the summer against Evloev/Murphy he'll likely be a lock for top 5 all time, in my opinion.

This is not at all Volk's fault but this was a pointless replay of their first fight. Aldo fought Mendes twice and Frankie twice but only after they earned the rematch. I wish Volk had fought either Murphy or Evoloev already and was taking the other one on next. That would start edging him closer past Aldo.

Styles make fights, that's why it's notable to build a resume against many top level fighters.
Conor vs Volk could go either way, and I wouldn't be confident picking Conor against a prime Holloway either.
I wouldn't pick Coner against a Prine Edger

Eh, this fight did nothing for his legacy. Pointless rematch and not that much different than their first fight. I mean Aldo had two decision wins over Frankie Edgar, but they were 3 years apart. I can see a case for Volk as FW GOAT, but he has 4 wins (all be decision) against two fighters (Max and Lopes, with Max being more significant).
Do i think this rematch made sense? No. Do I think it was a more dangerous fight for Volk compared to a defence against (the much more deserving) Murphy or Evloev? Yes.

Defending the FW belt at 37 is a feather in Volks cap. If he holds the title at 38 which is no inconceivable at this point that will be a record that stands for a long time IMO.

You can’t get slept like he did against Topuria and then get an endless supply of sympathy title shots against undeserving middle of the pack guys.

Diego was not a real contender either time. UFC just hates guys like Evloev and Aljo.
Evleov pulls out of more fights than he makes against ranked guys.
Aljo is 2-1 at FW. The guy is on a 1 fight streak...

I always say the same about Aldo. He was a great fighter who lost to the 3 best fighters he ever faced. And yes, mostly in his prime.

And I'm gonna say the same about Volk in terms of his loss to Topuria, who I think sparks prime Aldo just the same.

In the end the GOAT to me is mostly about resume and ability. Volk has the greatest resume and shown amazing ability for years.

This.

It's not only about who you beat. It's also about how you beat them. Aldo hat that potential GOAT magic in the air. He destroyed and dominated world class opponents. It was absolutely insane to watch. Volk "just" has an absolutely amazing resume.
