I trained under him in his NYC academy for 2 years and only saw the good side. I would later lose a lot of respect after discovering the unsportsmanslike behavior.

Im sure that Serra would be a fan of Renzo because he was involved with a lot of Matt and Nick’s training.

Matt and Nick Serra made their debut in my dojo competition something like over 20 years ago. Dan Miragliotta was the owner/instructor and the ref for the fights. Big Dan had to punch Nick in the stomach to release an armbar after the guy already tapped out. Renzo yelled for Nick to break him arm and Dan was having none of it. I thought I was going to get stuck in a huge brawl between our school and Renzo’s, especially when Renzo jumped into the ring after Dan hit Nick. Fortunately Renzo came to his senses and apologized to Dan.
