Is there a path back to gold for DDP?

His wrestling/BJJ is just not good enough for the highest levels of competition. He can get gold in possibly one of the kickboxing promotions with a shallow talent pool.

He needs to spend a year away working on wrestling, grappling and BJJ. He's still young enough to where he can burn a year or even 18 months spending time to improve and come back better than ever.
It seemed like it was working at the highest levels when he became champ and defended the belt a few times. Not sure what other levels there are. He lost like every man in history has who had the belt.

Will he not be gifted an unearned rematch like everyone else
Nah. He doesn't have the Izzy and Sean treatment so he will not get another 2 title shots by beating someone in the bottom of the top 10.

So he can:
1. Wait until Khamzat goes somewhere else
2. Wait until Khamzat loses
3. Go somewhere else (205)

He has expressed interest in 205 before. I would do that in his position. There is a massive-grappling gap at the top of MW now. No such gap in the top 10 at K1 LHW.

yep. wait for someone else to beat chimaev.

either that or try to move up to LHW.

Except Khabib

Ddps road back to gold is through mastering his oil checkin technique with his trainer

I don't think he needs to change a thing.

His no-defend-takedowns strategy is more likely to tire Khamzat out in rounds 6-10.

DDP can beat him yo
He almost had him in the 5th

Skinnyfat bums talking down on a guy who held the belt two weeks ago

Wait for Khamzat to lose and maybe practice his take down defense and crucifix defense game in the meantime

Dude needs to use his incredible skill, strength, and athleticism to focus on wrestling and takedowns.
I bet in a year someone as gifted as him could learn enough to get to the top again.

of course there is! styles make fights. over the past few years he's proved to be one of the best fighters on earth. but he's clearly vulnerable against a high level wrestler. i really don't see him ever developing the skill set to defeat khamzat though.

It's funny how fighters come to this realization AFTER getting mauled and looking pathetic as a champ, losing your belt vs a guy who has the most straightforward game ever with dominant wrestling. Hes fucking 31, getting tossed around by a decrepit Brunson should have been the wakeup call. Are gyms filled with worthless morons?
