Is Omalley a flop as a champion?

The card is a flop.. This is one of those cards where I'm only looking forward to watching 1 fight and that's the main event.

And yes O'malley sucks on the mic and is not charismatic.. But I'll still tune in because he fucks people up.
You aren’t looking forward to Ortega and Lopes for example?

What’s wrong with you?

His fighting style is good, he looks charismatic, but it’s just his personality, he just can’t interact, so there’s 0 hype. He’s lucky on social media its the image that counts, but as soon as he opens his mouth, it’s over. Merab is even worse…

Have lighter weight classes historically done well in the UFC? Ignoring Conor
Well - I think TJ, Cruz and Cody did pretty well during 2014-2017
At least were all well known and the rivalry brought interest.

They gave the card very little support aside from the venue. Im very excited to watch tonight. With Suga is going to KO Merab or Merab is going to rag doll him and make him look bad. I'm all for watching either of those two things and don't really know which one is more likely.

I say something like this when variations of this topic come up here.

He's got a decent following but he's nowhere near a Conor, for example. Then ya got the folks that can't get by the hair, or that he let's his girl do other guys, and the manlet crew.

I don't think he's a flop from a performance perspective as champion at all, he's fought pretty great, and I never really expected him to be huge from a crossover perspective.

O'Malley is the most popular bantamweight champion by a long shot. How many PPV buys that translates too is another question, one we can't answer in the ESPN plus era.

He’s a blatant industry plant with a very manufactured run
I don't really understand what this means still to this day when people say it. I will say that if I had to pick 3 UFC fights with predetermined outcomes that were never proven. His fight against Andre Soukhamthath would make my top 10 for most likely.

Merab came up with some really entertaining content last year and I am so disappointed that he hasn't done anything leading up to the fight. Feel like Sean will be more exciting as a champ.

O'Malley claimed UFC 292 did 570,000 buys
Henry Cedujo said it did 350,000

Then in late 2023 Aljo came out and said the PPV numbers were BAD:

There's been no word on 299 buys so far.
