Is Omalley a flop as a champion?

The little dudes just don't generate the buzz of the higher weight classes.

Plus, outside of maybe 3 matches total, this card (at least on paper) is a giant shit sandwich.

I was reading the comments underneath the UFC videos for this card on YouTube, and most were saying they would stream this and not pay a dime for such a poor overall card for a PPV.
When me and my friends talk about this card all we can sarcastically say is we can’t wait to see Merab attempt 87 TDs.

We all know how this fight is going if Sean doesn’t get that KO: Merab pressing for TDs until he succeeds, rinse and repeat.

he has enough haters that if he does lose its going to be:

"he was never that good"
gifted decision over Yan.
couldn't put Moutinho away.
free pass over Munoz.
Aljo sucked anyway.

Those are all true

He's been particularly weak on the publicity end for this fight, but if he puts out a great performance people will be talking about it. Think what you will about the guy, but he keeps putting out very exciting performances.

Have lighter weight classes historically done well in the UFC? Ignoring Conor aside.

Omalley is plenty exciting inside the octagon. He just doesn't have the all-around appeal. The charisma, looks, showmanship. Whatever you wanna call it

The card is a flop.. This is one of those cards where I'm only looking forward to watching 1 fight and that's the main event.

And yes O'malley sucks on the mic and is not charismatic.. But I'll still tune in because he fucks people up.
Ortega vs Lopez is fun too. But yeah, terrible card for a PPV. Maybe the sphere movies will be enough to make it an entertaining spectacle?

Agree on O'Malley. Great fighter to watch but has the personality of an inanimate carbon rod. Merab is trying hard to cultivate some interest but he's a dull fighter to watch and it's not the most captivating matchup. I'd rather see O'Malley vs Yan 2

His striking is poetry to watch and his resume is becoming solid. Who is his fan base though? It's like Dana's using him as a marketing experiment and it's failing.

I agree that Sean isn't quite the superstar he wants to be, but pretending that this card isn't absolutely horrible isn't helping your case.

Ortega-Lopes definitely gonna be a fun fight but it's still not something that I'm like " omg I wanna see that fight ".. Both guys are good fighters that likely will never be champs.

Just not enough marquee names on the card. And No disrespect to Shevchenko and Grasso but I'm just not into WMMA. I'll watch especially if Amanda Nunes is fighting lol but I not looking forward to it and it's usually a bathroom break for me.

I have no idea who the other fighters on the card are lol. I'm gonna be honest.

He's one of Khabib's cousins away from losing that strap. He's a legit striker, but he's a fabricated champion... and like all Uncle Dana / UFC marketing department "fabricated products", I can't wait to see him get folded

You don't tell fans who they should like and who are the stars on your roster, it has to come naturally. That's something Dana hasn't understood yet after 20 years +, and I love to see his face when his little "experiments" fail

I like to watch O'Malley fight, but he has negative charisma and is such a try-hard.

To quote my wife, "He's like a person who has to wear a special hat to show personality. When someone is reduced to that, you know there's nothing interesting about them."

If he manages to beat Merab, which is probably the best grappler in the division, then i would say he is not a flop. Im just not sold on Merabs chin. But if it holds up, Omalley is getting exposed.

Yeah, he can be fun to watch, but that’s pretty much the perfect assessment of him.

That said, fighting skills trump charisma. Sure, he acts sort of like a pick up artist from 15 years ago, but knockouts are knockouts and I don’t need to go out of my way to watch his podcast appearances or whatever.

He has a lot of nerve fighting Chuck Norris in the Sphere.

Wtf?

While it has been very funny to see:

Leon falling asleep during titlefights

Dricus bumbling through middleweight exposing how shit that division really is

Perreira being fed mma strikers who do not deserve to be in there at 205

or watching the top guys at heavyweight never fight each other for years.

Here we have two GREAT fighters in their prime, who are stylistic opposites - clearly they are the two best fighters in the division, both are on impressive streaks.

I'll take it!

If O’Malley can keep putting fools out he’ll be fine, he got skillz.

I’m actually coming around on him, results don’t lie.

The Yan and Moutinho ones are undeniable though
