Marlon got beat up pretty bad against O’Malley and now he got dropped against Figuiredo. He was also nowhere near competitive against Cory Sandhagen, no way that should’ve been a split decision. He starts too slow and is starting to become a glorified punching bag for skilled strikers

Needs to see if he works out like Tony before saying if he's gonna end up like Tony

To be a Tony you gotta be unable to stop after, say, 3-4 straight KO/sub losses. Vera can still be a gatekeeper why Tony's gates were immediately blown open by Chandler

Little extreme but I was not impressed by him at all. First two rounds were worthless.

The only apt comparison to Tony Ferguson is he's a bit too willing to play off of his back. Though he's objectively good at landing elbows.

He fought well. The fight was 1-1 going into round 3, and the fight was dead even on the betting line going into rd3. He's a massive problem for most guys, but will have to work back into the title picture.

Tony Ferguson is the kind of guy Marlon Vera becomes. Like the Day Man.

A losing streak of 2 matches is not enough for that title.....

Not at all. Chito didn't fold vs Suga like most would have in that fight, & losing to Figgy doesn't mean he's a scrub. Figgy is a former champ who is as good as it gets obviously since he can be a top guy in two different divisions. Chito's last two fights were losses, yes, but he didn't get finished in either against elite guys. He could've done better vs Figgy but in no way did he look like he didn't belong in the same octagon as Figgy.

Not T-Ferg level yet, but we're just coming to realize that he's just not as good as we thought. I see him as one of the gatekeepers (Dariush, Many, etc) of the division at this point. He probably won't get another crack at the belt.

Nah he still has a long way down to go before that still. He's losing to top 5 guys because that's just how far his skills goes as it stands currently. The only fight where he really took a beating was the O'Malley fight but that was still a lot less trauma than all Tony took from Gaethje. Vera will still get some good fights and wins, but it does seem his ceiling stop somewhere outside the top 5.

Nah he is just a contender that can't get back into contention. Maybe closer to Yan when he was on that losing streak. Whatever it is. Chito hasn't taken a step down in competition.
