Is It Time for the UFC to Move On from Joe Rogan?

DC kinda makes Rogan obsolete, he knows the grappling much better than Joe and the JJ a little better than him.

That was Joe's only real advantage in commentating, his knowledge of JJ.

I think he's fine tho, entertaining which is all that matters but yea he should probably move on in a couple years.

He has become a caricature of himself, yelling catchphrases and being extremely over the top.

He seems to be given a list of fighters to root for, regardless of the reality of the fight (it may be his personal bias). If he ever was unbiased, he isn’t anymore.

He doesn’t need the money and at this point I don’t think the UFC needs his name or familiar face, and his performance doesn’t justify his hefty paycheck, which seems to be a big factor in current UFC HR decisions.

The cheerleading for certain fighters is out of control. He also forces the other commentators to follow his lead because nobody is going to get into an argument with him on air.

The way that Rogan was rooting for Moreno and actively ignoring work that Fig was doing reminded me of the level of bias that you'd hear on HBO boxing broadcasts back in the day.

No. They will use him as long as he wants to keep doing it.

Rogan will be around until he decides not to be.

I think it is. Rogan is being called a sellout by maaaany of his fans on the web for moving to spotify, and also because lately his commentary has been too biased for the more marketable fighter that the ufc is trying to push.

It's become too evident that he is a company man, he used to have more integrity but he has completely sold out now. We don't need a spin doctor in the commentary booth, we need someone with more integrity that isn't that close to Dana and the ufcs interests.

This all started when he declared rhonda a once in a lifetime athlete and its gotten way worse over the years. He is unbearable to me. He should go back to doing fear factor and irrelevant shows like that because that's the level where his credibility has receeded to.

Such a bizarre post. He’s a sellout, yet he has remained loyal to the same company for 20+ years? He has no credibility yet his fame and appeal continue to grow based on his authenticity and willingness to go against the mainstream conversation and agenda.

His commentary has been equally weird and biased since the beginning. It’s okay to not like the guy, but let’s not pretend like something has suddenly changed.

Yeah, it is a problem. It is creating confusion and controversy for fans and with the quiet arenas it could potentially influence judges, refs, etc.

He seems to have an underdog fetish where if he feels someone is over performing his expectations then they deserve praise, where favorites don’t even get their landed strikes acknowledged.

Bisping and DC stating obvious facts and acting like they're smart is more annoying IMO

Think its more to do with him having money now from other sources. So he half asses the commentary treats it like a hangout thing instead of a job

I'm mostly relating what I'm reading under youtube comments about him selling out, but I do agree with them on some points.

He sold out in the sense that he used to be on a platform that invited free discourse from fans in the comment section (YouTube) but he has since switched to spotify, which doesn't have a comment section so that's like limiting their interactivity and they are pissed about it.

Then you got the aspect of him being over the top biased lately for certain fighters. Did you watch the Moreno fight? The kid did good, but you gonna tell me that the Rogan of 10 years ago was blatantly going out of his way to sell every shot even though some of them missed clearly? He ohhh'd and ahhhh'd everything in the first rounds. I've seen the difference, I've noticed it. He atleast hid his bias better before. Now it seems there's an agenda (to push future marketable fighter with paying fanbases, especially the American Mexican demographic)

He has been loyal to the ufc but not to his fans, or else there wouldn't be such a big backlash. Go on his ig and Twitter and read the ratio of negative comments to positive comments, it's swayed heavily towards negative since his change to spotify and his blatantly biased ufc commentary. There's a huge number of posts saying "I've been a fan of yours for years but you've sold out, I'm not watching you anymore"

It is what it is, I'm not that emotionally invested to be honest but he has lost like 20-30% approval from his fans, and that's a fact.

Does it count as selling out if literally nothing changes about the podcast?
I don't listen to Rogan much anymore but there is one thing that is missing on Spotify is a comment section. Now 99% of the comments are stupid shit memes, but the other 1% is discussion about the subjects touched on the podcast, pointing mistakes in what has been said, etc.

I don't use the term 'hater', because thats a millennial douchebag term used by someone who doesn't want any form of criticism, and who is so brainwashed by certain shit cultures, keeping them safe inside a bubble of delusion and entitlement. BUT, Rogan 'haters', (it's justified in this sense), really just can't appreciate the body of work this guy has given the UFC and you as a consumer of their product. Probably the most educated, the most fair (yes people, he has a job to do , and UFC tells him to push certain products/fighters, theyre a business), the most insightful, and the most entertaining commentator to ever do it, granted he and Goldig were the dream team, like working with a slightly more educated Tito. The man will be surely missed, a part of UFC history/ royalty. Youre LUCKY you get to still listen to this man do his job. Becuase who will they get?? Another Jon Anik shill, yesman, cuckhold? Anik is ok, but he is NO Rogan. Paul fucking Felder (non fighter bashing, but he's one step away from bottom of the barrel Dan Hardy)? If you really want nonsensical talking heads like other major sports, who are actually biased just for the sake of keeping the sport psuedo relevant, which ultimately just keeps 'fans'/ consumers just interested enough to keep buying the products making the bigs guys $$$$, then that is what you are going to get. Keeping it safe, keeping it stupid, keeping it another watered down product, just like the shit watered down budlight you probably are drinking right now. CHeers assholes.

Ok, boomer.

Sadly yes. I've always been a fan of him as a commentator and love his MMA podcasts but it shows that Joe Rogan is not really following it anymore during his last few performances. There are better commentators and Joe has enough money to do whatever he wants with his extra free time

To the point that others have made, Rogan is the last one you're going to get who is not a 100% scripted bot. Joe is a company man to the extent that he is friends with Dana, but he has enough money' where he doesnt need to play ball and make nice. He can speak his mind. Often it's wrong. But it at least feels authentic.
I so wish the commentary teams weren’t all UFC yes men. DC and Bisping are almost pathological to the extents they will go to defend Dana and the UFC, it’s insane.

I enjoyed the last broadcast with DC and Bisping. The last one with Rogan in it made my ears bleed. Too much yelling and talking over each other. I think it was one of the worst I have listened to. I hope that they do move on from Rogan. Let Megan or Laura sit in the announcing booth see how that goes.
