Is it just me or...?

The Blackening is definitely my favorite. I also really liked Supercharger, Unto the Locust... and of course, their earlier stuff. I only seem to like a small number of songs off their recent albums.
Blackening happened at a massive change in my life so it's one of my trophy, for want of a better word, albums.

Actually the stuff I listen is more like 5-10 years ago. I have been going back and listening to more music from my "youth" that I didn't listen to at the time as well.

Yeah, I really think a big part of peoples emotional attachment to a lot of music, is based around where they were in their life, when they were listening to it.

I certainly have some great memories, listening to Machinehead.

Is most of the music that people listen to, 20+ years old?

I just get awesome new speakers setup and indulged in a random youtube metal binge and am shocked to see the age of most of the music I love seems to be at least 20-30 years old?

God I feel old... for zoomers who consider 2000's to be "oldies" I will punch you in the fucking dick!!!

Look at most festivals, most of those bands are old as fuck.

And yeah I listen to way more music from before 2005 than after, I'm a old metal head and that's what we do ha ha

Ah nice. Saw them on that tour in Sydney , amazing gig.
Seeing them do the 15 year anniversary of Burn My Eyes in their home town was pretty epic.
Flynn is a brilliant Bay Area ambasador, do you watch their Friday youtube stuff where they drink local beer?

I have seen one of their videos from the rehearsal space, I need to hunt these down too then.

My daughter listens to some new stuff, but probably more than half is old stuff. So yeah I think there might be some good new music but even kids today are acknowledging that the old stuff is great.

It's not like the 60's and 70's where nobody wanted to listen to their parents music.
My kids taste for music was influenced by GTA Vice City which they played growing up. Nothing more satisfying than listening to 9yr olds singing Toto.

I mostly listen to early to mid 90s rap, or to 70s rock. Favourite rapper is Ice Cube and favourite band is Pink Floyd.

Most people you know probably listen to music that’s 20 + years old because you’re probably my age. And at some point, you just give up on listening to new shit.

That said, most new music is shit. And there are reasons for that.

Bands are no longer signed to major labels. They want to make a huge ROI, and solo acts give them the biggest ROI.

Because music is always a solo act now, and everyone uses software to create their music, they all use the same samples for bass, guitar, drums, etc., and it all sounds the same.

Major labels, ever since p2p music sharing cut into their profits, do not want to take a chance on some artists that is revolutionary or groundbreaking, because it’s hard to predict what will catch on. So they sign “artists” who are derivative of whatever is already popular, and promote the shit out of them, because they know that’s how they will get the biggest return.

It's not really true that this is because of people getting old and having a preference for the music of their youth. Many kids of today are starting with music from 20-30 years before they were even born. When I was a kid this was not overly common at all. I book lots of younger bands just starting out and 90% of them would fit in better in the 70s/80s/90s than they would today.
Depends how I'm feeling. I don't listen to Frank Sinatra much but Led Zeppelin and that whole era is the shit. Then early metal.

I like Avenged Sevenfold, Seether, Godsmack, Amon Amarth. I think there's a lot of good bands that are recent.
Those bands aren't really new at all.

Define "people". Someone in their teens now probably listens to a lot of new stuff.
I definitely listen to a lot more older stuff than new.
Fun fact, The Killers debut album Hot Fuss will be able to buy its first beer in the USA this year! Woohoo!

I should have clarified, I mean the old farts of sherdog like myself... I was however, drunk at the time.

Because everything feels better when you're young.

Is normal.
