Is it just me or...?

What speakers did you roll with?

I’ve been getting into vintage stereo setups recently and just picked up a Yamaha cr-2020 (circa 78-80 I believe) and got my patents old ass KLH’s from ages ago hooked up to them in my front room.. I’m playing mostly MP3’s right now but will hook up other shit later.

Not the most insane setup by any means but pretty cool for the front room.. I plan on grabbing a Pioneer 50 series at some point and a San-Sui as well
I've got a Sonos setup with soundbar, subwoofer and 2 x era300's as surrounds.

I'm still screwing around with the different settings but damn, does it put out some impressive noise.

You doing mostly a music setup or a setup for everything (tv/theatre etc..)?

I’ve only done music setups so far -I have a different more modern setup in my office (Integra receiver Monitor Audio speakers). Haven’t spent much time doing anything with my tv’s tho

I use a home theater PC connected to a 77inch OLED TV for most things. I have a big square room for my lounge so it's perfect for TV/theater/music etc.

Unfortunately, they just released a new soundbar which is apparently even better but oh well...

Is most of the music that people listen to, 20+ years old?

I just get awesome new speakers setup and indulged in a random youtube metal binge and am shocked to see the age of most of the music I love seems to be at least 20-30 years old?

God I feel old... for zoomers who consider 2000's to be "oldies" I will punch you in the fucking dick!!!
I bought a jukebox for the bar the other day and the first thing Eamon Bluetoothed was an 80s mix. It has a CD and record player but he went straight in for that, haha.

I listen to everything from ancient choral music to modern rap, there's over 1000 years worth of music in there so yeah, the vast majority of it is going to be more than 20 years old.

...I was quite drunk when I posted that LOL

I'm with him, I'll take 80's music over the currently produced garbage, any day.

I bought him a special edition of For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, his favourite Van Halen album for his birthday this month, he bought me a special edition NIN The Fragile for Christmas but he went straight for the 80s mix rather than actual vinyl which was the entire point of buying the thing.

I would have thought, it would be all about the music, not the technology used to play it. I've never really understood collecting old vinyl, to each their own.

My ex and I lost hundreds of records when the previous ex burned our house down, considering I started buying them when I was 4 I've spent forever rebuilding my collection. I grew up buying records with any pocket money or Saturday job earnings I had, it's kind of in my flesh.

As mentioned, I think it's common to have a strong preference for entertainment music/film from your younger years, and perhaps before.

One thing that I do feel has really changed Is the accessibility to music. You can download an artists new album or discography in seconds.

Buying a vinyl, cassette or cd back in the day. You may only know one song on that album. You'd sit in your room, read and look at the cover listen to each song and really get to know that album.
And that's after waiting till the the weekend, taking the trip to town, finding that album in amongst all others at the record shop. It was a whole experience that I don't think exists anymore.

I sold mine years ago and deeply regret it, some could be worth a fortune now.

I love going to record shops, I normally leave with heaps. English band Thunder, I saw at my first metal festival as a kid had a gigantic poster with one of their albums of the actual gig I was at and after losing it in a fire I found it again in a second hand record store. Magic. That poster was on my wall after seeing them when I was 14/15ish.

Some can't be replaced but I've done a good job trying. I don't know about my ex, he was a part time DJ who had way more vinyl than me, we started buying CDs after the fire, it's only been 20 years or so I've been really seeking them out.

I didn't even realise they released a new song. I'll have a listen...

Edit: Yeah, really does nothing for me. Maybe It'll grow on me but I wouldn't bet on it.
I didn’t mind it. Burn my eyes/the blackening are my faves though.

The Blackening is definitely my favorite. I also really liked Supercharger, Unto the Locust... and of course, their earlier stuff. I only seem to like a small number of songs off their recent albums.

I think both of their live albums are great.
