Is it just me or...?

It's not really true that this is because of people getting old and having a preference for the music of their youth. Many kids of today are starting with music from 20-30 years before they were even born. When I was a kid this was not overly common at all. I book lots of younger bands just starting out and 90% of them would fit in better in the 70s/80s/90s than they would today.

Those bands aren't really new at all.

Settle down before you have a stroke old man

there are very few things in life that rival the satisfaction of discovering good new music. I'm into techno and black metal, there's tons of great stuff coming out of Europe these days.

Is most of the music that people listen to, 20+ years old?

I just get awesome new speakers setup and indulged in a random youtube metal binge and am shocked to see the age of most of the music I love seems to be at least 20-30 years old?

God I feel old... for zoomers who consider 2000's to be "oldies" I will punch you in the fucking dick!!!
Honestly, a lot of the older music is better on so many levels. The writing was infinitely better. The originality. The emotion. Pretty much the artistic quality was just on another level. Its way too commercialized now, way too much about the money and what A&Rs want you to make instead of what artists want to do. Prince would always talk about this back in the day. How artists need more control over their craft. Unfortunately, greed reigns supreme.

There are some solid new underground acts though. Nothing matching the magic of the past, but they are there. Just gotta dig deeper to find the gems.
