Izzy is done.

He had a great championship run, but it's obviously over. He's lost 4 out of 5 fights, and he was finished and/or dominated in all 4.

This shouldn't be a surprise. He's 36 and has had 29 mma fights, at least 80 kickboxing matches, and a handful of boxing matches. If anything, his success lasted longer than might be expected for someone who relies on speed and reflexes (as opposed to someone who relies more on power).

Silva at least had a ground game if he got taken down, too. Izzy got submitted within seconds once DDP took him down. Khamzat would be a nightmare match-up for him.

I think him trying to be super competitive was making him crazy and miserable. He seems alot happier now just fighting for fun and making some extra retirement money in the process. This would have been way more interesting if this happened during the early part of Adesanyas title reign

In fact I’m pretty sure the night Khamzat debuted was the Adesanya-Paulo fight card—Israel was styling on these dudes for a while..almost every single one of them until Gastelum. Not as dominant or highlight worthy as Anderson, but a unique offense topped with a body type that served him well at middleweight.
If Khamzat were the title challenger that same night (and I mean like current Khamzat gets taken via Time Machine to fight 5 years ago Adesanya) then I’d say Adesanya has a better shot and even a mental advantage at least leading into the fight
Problem is (although we have never seen Israel actually get dominated via grappling throughout a whole fight the way Dricus did) Khamzat is likely a worse matchup scenario for him

The Strickland fight was a domination. It's the only one where it looked completely hopeless after the knockdown in round 1.
