Because there’s zero legit MMA grapplers in the UFC right now. Could be by design or could be due to the UFC’s frugality. Regardless the golden era which Gan McGee fought in was abundantly rich at HW.

The current best grapplers at HW are Blaydes with his mediocre wrestling creds and Almeida who’s a one trick pony (Ironically both ducked by Gane).


I don’t think Gane would get through middle of the pack HW’s like Barnett or Rico Rodriguez from McGees time. Both Rico or Barnett in their prime would beat the ever loving shit out of Gane and I don’t think many experts would disagree with that.

thats just HW. the talent pool is very shallow. most guys who are this size and athletic go to another sport.

99% of D1 athletes don't turn pro, they just find real jobs, there are tons of athletic big men out there they just don't go into fighting.

Pe De Pano was another middle of the pack HW during that era who was a one dimensional BJJ ADCC champ but his style translated much better. The grappling in HW used to be high level
