This is more delusional than DDP thinking he won four rounds. It's fine if they make it, but an instant rematch after zero defenses is pretty far from "deserved".

An instant rematch for a champ who's never defended his strap when you have at least two other popular viable contenders in Izzy and Chimaev (dubious as his claim may be) is neither the best thing from a competitive or promotional angle.

Strickland didn't try hard enough to deserve anything.

Only a man looking to finish, fighting hard, and ekes out a close one deserves a rematch.

Guys who only "spar hard" don't deserve a thing.
 
I thought Sean took it 1, 3, and 5, but 3 was close enough that we don't need an instant rematch. You only do instant rematches if the champ was long-reigning, there was a robbery, or something weird happened like a draw, NC, bad stoppage, etc.

With that being said, I don't think Sean should get sent to the back of the line. If he gets a solid win in the top 5 or just outside of it, you can slide him back in.

Yeah that was a fucked up one but Conor did move up after the fight but it's still bullshit how they were like nah fuck Aldo. I'm not saying you are wrong and I was rooting for DDP
 
Idk how Sean "deserves" an immediate rematch, simply because the fight was close?

Title defenses earn immediate rematches imo, and even then only 1.

They don't really make sense with a long reigning champ either. If somebody has 5 title defences you shouldn't effectively have to beat him twice to become champ.

Does Sean REALLY deserve a rematch? Like a flash in the pan no defense champ deserves a rematch over some fresh matchups?


I could see an argument for a rematch with one or two wins but reality is he got lucky with Izzy and did not defend once so I hate to be the one to point out the obvious, which is he does not deserve an instant rematch.
 
It's time to give the shot to Khmazat imo. Or else the belt is bound to stay in full hot potato mode.

Instant rematch for a guy with no title defenses..no thanks..the edge lord can disappear
 
I hate the scoring system and I hate the need for a decision to be made so fast and for their to need to be a winner. Dricus did not win anything. Either give it to Strickland since he's the only won that won clear rds or have it go to an extra rd.
 
I don't want an instant rematch, even if I was rooting for Sean and think he would win, if they ran it back.

With DDP as champ, there's a fresh motivation for the entire division. And, in the meantime, we have open loops to be closed with Strickland vs Cannonier and Izzy.

I agree. I usually don't like rematches. I think this one deserves one though.

It was a very close fight. A lot of people think Sean won so it's somewhat controversial. Also, the headbutt or whatever cut Sean had him bleeding into his eyes all night. In a rematch that probably doesn't happen. I would actually like to see them make adjustments and run it back.

Who else would DDP fight right now? Looks like UFC want to pick up where they left off with the DDP/Israel/Africa thing. Izzy recently said he wants a long break. I wonder if he would change his mind to come back and fight at 300 for an opportunity at the title? Will be very interesting to see how they book the middleweight division
