Is Carlos Ulberg The Next Big Thing?

Ehh.. People were saying the same thing when Alex fought Jan too and look what he went on to do. Jan isn't really a reliable way to gauge where someone is at IMO because Jan makes everyone he fights look mid. He made Alex, Ank and Ulberg all look mid then the following fight they went back to looking like world beaters.

Yeah, but he was already a middleweight champion and his tdd wasn't proven. Ulberg isn't the striker Pereira is. Pereira outstruck younger version of Jan. Ulberg is also a striker, but with less power and less tools.

Anka vs Ulberg would be tactical based fight that could some people bores. But I think it will be very nice and fun to watch

….i will never forget that Kennedy Nzchezkwu fight where he shit the bed. Ulberg was stunting on his opponent and was on his way to a one sided W, He begins to showboat and get cocky and then BOOM gets put out. That’s gonna be hard to wash.

No he’s the run of the mill point fighter with decent ish power, this is still the same dude that went to tooth and nail with Jan who is pushing 50 and was coming off double shoulder surgery and recovery was so bad he was thinking of retiring. I could see him being like Robert Whittaker he will be a gatekeeper that keeps beating the contenders until someone beats him


But like I’m still not really impressed by him I ain’t ready to say he’s the next big thing because he beat Reyes on resurgence beating 3 cans, he definitely deserves the next shot though.

But he is the first new "young" LHW in awhile to put anything together since Ank. He deserves the shot, and maybe more importantly, no one else does.

Ulberg is not as good as Alex but he's deceptively dangerous and a lot better than people make him out to be. He's a big, strong, agile dude with a long reach and good power who has good counters. He's a tough night out for anyone right now and to think otherwise is a HUGE underestimation.

I actually wrote him off after his debut loss, but he has slowly built himself back up and showed some high levels skills yesterday's in fight with that movement , timing and speed. Could be a legit champ, but I wouldn't go as far as the next big thing.

I dont think so.he has had very favorable matches and Reyes is shot. In glad he went on a win streak but he has one foot in the shadow realm before he even enters the cage. Need ulberg vs winner of jiri vs Khalil or murzakanov with a win over rakic

Yea... he likely doesn't get past Alex or big Ank but I think he likely beats Khalil cause of his reach and he knows how to fight at distance very well. Jiri on the other hand I don't really know how that one would go.

Reyes was the next best contender, period. At this point, the other top names: Alex, Jiri, Hill, and Rountree would just be recycling. Fresh off the compost pile recycling, but recycling nonetheless.

That's arguable. Of all the top names he could have got at the beginning of this year, Jan had the least shine to give. He was out for a long time, seemingly the only guy off a loss that wasn't a title shot, and generally makes fights really tough for people to look good in, so Ulberg's win became boring, and despite the fact he beat a top 3 guy, needed to fight again. If they were really protecting him, he could have not needed to fight again after Jan, or simply never given Jan in the first place

Murzakanov is the next big thing. He has the cleanest striking of all the LHWs.

But Ulberg will decision Big Ank with ease in the meantime

Ulberg is definitely a contender in the division, but I wouldn't go as far as to say he's the next big thing. Granite many were acting like Dom Reyes was all of a sudden this dangerous fighter outta nowhere, but knocking out Dom doesn't prove he's elite.

If he's able to finish Jiri, Poatan, or Ank then we can start talking. Til then, he's just another contender that looks promising.

Get your facts straight. Dominic Reyes was on a 3 fight win streak before Ulberg beat him.
