Is Cain Velasquez still in his prime??

How can a guy who's known to outwork lightweights not last 1 round without gassing.

Well, lets unpack it:

1) he's 33 years old now
2) years of injuries and surgeries
3) inactivity (year+ layoff)

4) fighting at altitude

5) taking damage

It's not exactly a hard puzzle to piece together.

I don't know with all of these injuries. Cain is very injury prone, and that has probably taken a lot out of him and unfortunately his legacy.

After all his years in wrestling who took a lot from his body, then those constant injuries in the past few years, he is almost 34 and barely fights, i mean Cain from 2008-2011 was a monster, he looked almost invincible and could be the Fedor that the UFC never had, but his carreer stagnated badly, on top of that he lost the belt and he is already injured again. Honestly, i don`t think we will ever see the best Cain Velasquez ever again, i think he probably past his prime and i wouldn`t be surprise if he losses to a Miocic or even Overeem, Werdum i said he was the worst matchup possible and i still think they can fight in USA,China or in my backyard, Werdum wins...Hope he proves me wrong.

No way.

To many inuries IMO.

Stupid approach to training...

I don't even remember what it's like to watch him fight. Don't care to watch him anymore.

In a very thin division he could make another title run for sure. I bet he smashes Browne much like he did Bigfoot

Is this the american guy that thinks he's mexican?

Bum knees, repaired shoulder and is about to get blinded in his next fight.

He has been passing the last years of his prime getting injured.

I don't know, Cain fought JDS and got KOd, beat Bigfoot, beat JDS, beat Bigfoot again, beat JDS again and then lost to Werdum.

I need to see more of him to make a judgement.

Nobody knows what Cain's prime really even was. He only fought like 2 guys in half a decade and kept rematching them. He finally faced somebody who wasn't terrified of getting wrestlefucked and he got his ass handed to him.

That shows how stupid it is to waste your short time at the top taking rematches.

Even with the few amount of fights he did have in his prime, he could have put together a legendary streak if a few of those fights weren't rematches. Instead, he'll go down in history as a mediocre champion that only beat like 2 guys.

he's only beat like 2 guys the last how many years? i mean it's more indicative of how shallow the HW division is. After being written off years ago, Arlovski comes back and is right there near the top again.

I sure hope so! The HW division needs a prime Cain!

Age-wise he's fine. As far as MMA wear and tear he's probably fine too. He's only had 15 fights and it's not like he's been beat to death in a lot of them. But as far as training goes, he does seem to spar too hard with Cormier and his S&C coach has him do some stupid stuff like those explosive heavy leg extensions and kettlebell swings with 200# for 25 reps. That kind of idiocy is bound to cause injuries. So if he is past his prime I think it has more to do with chronic injuries from stupid training methods. But if he got smarter about training methods he may be able to stay healthy and still have a lot of good performances left in him without only fighting once a year.
