We're less than 2 months away from Smith vs Jones which is pretty insane.

Jonny Boy barely took damage though so it makes sense. A lot of people are saying this is a complete mismatch and usually I would find an argument against it, but this is one narrative I don't necessarily disagree with.

I'm honestly not sure if Anthony Smith has an advantage anywhere in this fight

When it comes to wrestling, Smith is good offensively, but he got controlled for an entire round against Volkan Oezdemir (who is known as a power striker). He got out classed by DC on the ground

These are horrible places to be when Jones is the man on top of you. Sure Volkan didn't get the finish and Smith survived, but when Jones is on top of guys he goes into kill mode (like he did vs Gus).

He is still decent when he's the one going for the wrestling. Still not sure if TD attempts like this would get Jones down.

He's got a decent chin, but he is still able to get KO'd with punches & kicks
I can see Jones Smith ending like this

I'm not sure Jones has the power to do something like this though

KO'd stiff

He and Volkan were both gassed out by round 3, and that was one issue Volkan had against DC. Once he ate a few overhand rights he started to gas out and then DC took it to the ground and TKO'd him.

Against guys like Jones and DC, the cardio needs to be championship level. Smith has never been 5 rounds in his UFC career.

The only place where I believe he has a chance, is on the feet

The only issue for Smith is, his reach is only 76 inches (the same reach as Tony Ferguson lol)

That's an insane difference for a guy who is the same height as Jones. If Gus (who is 6 foot 5) with a reach of 79 inches struggled to land on Jones at UFC 232, does Smith really have a chance to land anything clean?

His only advantage here is power, and it's not that much higher than Jones.

win or lose though, Smith has had a heroic come back in his career and he's already won the battle.

You got it right when you said power, however it is not relevant when looking at the kind of power Jon has faced

Yeah, he needs to have arms to compete, crazy rite
So 84" reach doesn't help his intentional eyepokes to keep the distance? I doubt if he had Artem Lobov reach he wouldn't be as competitive.

Power advantage

Thats pretty much it.

If Jones loses this it would be so sweet.

Smith should come roided out of his mind for this fight and miss weight by 20+ lbs. It's about time Jones felt unfairly disadvantaged like his patients do.

his only chance is scoring a KO early. Other than that, Jones will control him all night. I also think Jones is physically stronger too, so if he takes Smith down, it's pretty much over..

Smith is so scary looking it will probably frighten Jon a little. He could use that as an advantage. Guy looks like a cro magnon or something, which is good for a fighter.

He has some intangibles: He's hungry, Jones isn't after winning the belt back again. He's motivated, where as will fighting Anthony Smith get Jones fired up to train every day like fighting DC or Gus did? Doubtful. He has everything to gain and nothing to lose, and the opposite for Jones, so we might see a great upset in this fight if OSP-caliber Jones shows up to the fight and gets sparked in the first round.

Yep. Everyone tries to figure Jones out and the longer the fight goes the worse it becomes. Might as well do a Vitor and go for a foul straight away, poke in the eyes, rush and dont let him get comfortable.

I'm not saying go for a foul lol I'm saying he needs to just be willing to essentially go for broke from the opening bell and pray Jones takes him lightly. Because like you said, the longer the fight goes on, the worse it'll be for Smith. If he's willing to "die on his shield" and just go after Jones instead of trying to piece together a puzzle, he can maybe catch him. Afterall, Smith has got some power in his limbs and it is a fight so anything can happen.

On a side note, if I'm Smith, I'm doing nothing but drilling takedown defense and forward pressure my entire fight camp. If this fight gets out of the first, chances are Jones will win with ease, so he's gotta just say "fuck it" and go in deep black beast style.

Is Anthony Smith Better Than Jon Jones Anywhere?

No!

His hands are heavier. Jones has had weaker hands than a lot of people he's annihilated though almost all of them.

That's it.

No. Jones just needs to take him seriously and have a great camp. He walks through him and takes him out in maybe two rounds.

More power in his hands, for sure. But he's slower than molasses compared to Jones, so it likely won't matter. Jon is just way too well rounded for him overall, and much faster.

And if Jones chooses not to box he is so good at still hurting you badly. His kicks are incredible. He will destroy your legs and your body with them. Staying at long kicking range the whole time.

He’s got a better chance at winning than Serra over GSP.

Fuck it. Let’s go Anthony.

Smith winning would probably be the biggest upset in combat sports history, not just MMA. Jones is in his prime, on the juice, the best ever, looking better than ever and Smith is a faded journeyman that was able to beat some way over the hill fighters and a gassed Volkan who still has PTSD from DC. Volkan is far and away his best win but even Volkan got fast tracked to a title owing to circumstances, arguably losing to GSP and some freaky knockouts. There are half a dozen fighters at MW that could come up and smoke Smith - heck, Id even favor Tyron over him - the gap here is absolutely massive.
