Media Is Anthony Smith Better Than Jon Jones Anywhere?

No and he doesn’t even have a punchers chance

Yeah he’s a finishing machine but don’t let the old man Rashad and old man shogun Knockouts fool you he doesn’t have hectic one punch KO power

We're less than 2 months away from Smith vs Jones which is pretty insane.

Jonny Boy barely took damage though so it makes sense. A lot of people are saying this is a complete mismatch and usually I would find an argument against it, but this is one narrative I don't necessarily disagree with.

I'm honestly not sure if Anthony Smith has an advantage anywhere in this fight

When it comes to wrestling, Smith is good offensively, but he got controlled for an entire round against Volkan Oezdemir (who is known as a power striker). He got out classed by DC on the ground

These are horrible places to be when Jones is the man on top of you. Sure Volkan didn't get the finish and Smith survived, but when Jones is on top of guys he goes into kill mode (like he did vs Gus).

He is still decent when he's the one going for the wrestling. Still not sure if TD attempts like this would get Jones down.

He's got a decent chin, but he is still able to get KO'd with punches & kicks
I can see Jones Smith ending like this

I'm not sure Jones has the power to do something like this though

KO'd stiff

He and Volkan were both gassed out by round 3, and that was one issue Volkan had against DC. Once he ate a few overhand rights he started to gas out and then DC took it to the ground and TKO'd him.

Against guys like Jones and DC, the cardio needs to be championship level. Smith has never been 5 rounds in his UFC career.

The only place where I believe he has a chance, is on the feet

The only issue for Smith is, his reach is only 76 inches (the same reach as Tony Ferguson lol)

That's an insane difference for a guy who is the same height as Jones. If Gus (who is 6 foot 5) with a reach of 79 inches struggled to land on Jones at UFC 232, does Smith really have a chance to land anything clean?

His only advantage here is power, and it's not that much higher than Jones.

win or lose though, Smith has had a heroic come back in his career and he's already won the battle.

I could LITERALLY watch that GIF of Shogun stanky legging against the cage getting BRUTALLY finished by elbow and follow up punches. LOVE IT!!!

Well in his humanity yes. Way better there.

But as a fighter, no. More power yes, but "better"? No....

Smith's cardio is garbage. Jones could just oblique kick him for a bit then finish him whenever he wanted.

And it's not like Smith has crazy power where he might get lucky. I've seen worse matchups on paper but this is definitely up there
So driving you agree with.....

Roid boy will probably win but I wouldn't say Smith has NO chance.

It's MMA. Anything can happen.

Jesus Christ this is prize fighting, who gives a shit if they are great human beings? My role models are not people who step into a cage to try and knock each other out. With that being said, BLESS GOAT JONES!

Smith will have to go wild and make it a sloppy fight in order to catch Jones. He doesn't have the technique to consistently land on Jones. He needs to create confusion and land some bombs.

If the striking becomes too much to handle, Jones will go for the takedown and probably win by TKO.

Reach is only a factor if he lets Jones stay on the outside and control distance. Forward pressure will be his friend, but be wary of the elbows coming in.

Joe louis also had 76 inches reach at 6'2 and beat the shit out of guys with 85 inches reach like primo carnera, max baer 81 ", buddy baer, abe simon etc.

i hope he fuckin subs jones in a god damn gogo just to shut you casuals up for a while

He has a puncher's chance, as they say. Can't really see an advantage anywhere for Smith, but, he still has a puncher's chance.

So driving you agree with.....
Yeah. And the drug test posts too.

They were the first things that popped in my head actually when I saw the title but then saw you guys already said it lol

I get why Jones rubs people the wrong way, even the "all glory to God" stuff is off-putting to me all things considered. But just objectively it's hard to see how Jones loses. I expect the same game plan he used on Gus

No. He might have heart but Jones has talent. He will destroy Smith. Don’t buy the PPV

Damn... That was a whole lot of work put into making an obvious point. Even on sherdog, there's not a single person who thinks he has more than a punchers chance. He's gonna be murdered.

Being serious I don't see Smith better than Jones anywhere. Complete mismatch. Jones has a crazy chin, DC landed huge shots and Jones took it. Kicks go to Jones, Elbows go to Jones, Wrestling and clinch go to Jones, Cardio goes to Jones, Boxing Jones, Takedowns and defence Jones, Reach and distance/control again Jones. Volkan got his back, imagine if Jones does.

Smith's best chance is if Jones takes him lightly like he did in the first Gus fight and Smith just says "fuck it" and goes after him from the get go.

Yep. Everyone tries to figure Jones out and the longer the fight goes the worse it becomes. Might as well do a Vitor and go for a foul straight away, poke in the eyes, rush and dont let him get comfortable.

Yeah but Joe Louis was the greatest HW of his era... Anthony Smith on the other hand...

Love the guy but he's has nothing on Jones. He will have to go for broke in a couple minutes span and hope sweet baby Jesus is going to punish Jones once and for all.

He would get destroyed in the rematch though
