Iranian Cities hit by Anti-Government Protests

Supporting democratic uprisings seems to be a good thing to do.

Didn't work too well in Libya and Iraq. But again, we (Americans) never learn from our mistakes. Almost forgot, Vietnam.

A direct overland route from Tehran to Beirut was opened up pretty recently & the first few Iranian military convoys have gone through. They've also been setting up bases fairly close to the Israeli border. Rouhani is pretty popular for the most part too.

It's interesting timing. I'd like to see the Iranians get rid of their theocracy & I know a huge number of them do too, but this smells like bullshit to me. Wouldn't be the first time.

I wonder if the women will protest topless.

"Youth unemployment stands at more than 40 percent, sluggish state-owned enterprises control significant sectors of the economy...a new budget presented by the government this month was widely debated on Telegram, Iran’s most used social media outlet. Many people were upset over appropriations for religious and revolutionary institutions while other areas of the budget were cut."

"The Tasnim news agency quoted Mr. Hamedani as saying that no protest permits had been issued for Tehran and warning that 'such gatherings will be firmly dealt with by the police.' A reformist ally of Mr. Rouhani, Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri, warned that protesters risked setting off unrest that might not be controllable."

“The trigger was apparently a protest that the government’s hard-line opponents organized in Mashhad, which got out of control and turned into an anti-regime rally and is now spreading across the country...Saturday is the eighth anniversary of the nationwide demonstrations that helped crush the 2009 pro-democracy Green Movement."

“The future is unpredictable and the regime has managed to crack down on more serious protests in the past decades.”

I love the American state department saying they "condemn the arrest of peaceful protesters" with not a sliver of irony.

Lift the Sanctions Iran has plenty of resources. Problem solved. But nah need those sanctions to ferment unrest.

On a lighter note, they do have hot chicks in Iran.

Someone's bright idea...

I'd like the rest of the world release statements like these during the next BLM protest. "Iran condems the systematic racial opression in the United States"

Supporting democratic uprisings is the perfect excuse for a government to call them foreign intervention and start shooting them down.

The best way to deal with Iran is to reward Iran when it does good and punish it when it doesn't.

But America has its nose so far up the Saudi and Israeli butt that it will punish Iran regardless of what it does empowering its radical elements.

Iran tried to help America back in 2001 in its war against the Taliban and Alquaeda, but it was snubbed.

Erm we didnt support any democratic uprising in nam

True, but we did support the quasi-democratic government. Kennedy believed that a failure in Southeast Asia on the part of the United States to gain control and stop communist expansion would fatally damage U.S. credibility with its allies and his own reputation.

Not to mention that the US was silent when el-Sisi massacred 600 peaceful sit in protestors.

Or Bahrain violent crackdowns, or Saudi warcrimes in Yemen, etc, etc.

So they look like latinas, but are they as crazy as latinas or not?

Anyone want to give Iran's government some credit for allowing the peaceful protest?

Apparently Iran is more democratic than Catalonia.
Next steps :
US and Israeli agents shoot some protesters
The west blames the government, and keeps/increase funding and arming the protesters who then become "moderate rebels".
Civil War.
Conspiracy theories expose the truth.
Hypocrites and liars deny the truth.
5/10 years later, everyone recognize the truth but feel like It was necessary to deny it at the time of the war.
Results : Innocents killed + more fake History.

With all that oppression and dress code I would think they would be pretty wild behind closed doors.

Not to mention bribing military officers to defect claiming that the US is invading at anytime and those who dont defect will be sent to prison for life.

"Plata o plomo" the American way.

Nothing democratic about it
We backed basivaly dictatorship then a military council

Yeah the old domino effect
That theory died then the myth of communists being one united monolithic bloc as the asian communist powers went to war soon after
With the myth of the u.s militarys power making it unbeatable in a war thats 3 huge myths beleived at the time that died all in short sucession when u think about it!

I wish Iranians liberty but the very worst thing to do is for US to have anything to do with it.

Like anyaone real believes the Arab Spring was some magical FB evolving movement. Who do you think the Russians learned that social media could be used as a successful tool against another government,

Russia has bin playing that game for a long time.
