I thought this was an interesting piece of news. Iranians protesting against their own government. A gift to the Trump administration and Americans. Let's hope things tilt in the right direction unlike Libya. If not, things could get ugly really fast. Nothing like Iran starting a war with someone to detract attention from their own problems.

"Anti-government demonstrations that began in Iran on Thursday have now spread to several major cities. Large numbers reportedly turned out in Rasht, in the north, and Kermanshah, in the west, with smaller protests in Isfahan, Hamadan and elsewhere. The protests began against rising prices but have spiralled into a general outcry against clerical rule and government policies."

What was the kick-off? If there wasn't something overt and obvious to all of a sudden mobilize the masses it's probably a foreign intel plot of some sort.

Yeah, things must be bad, they are not even burning the American flag - for once.

Right there on the first post and article:

Why would they? They want freedom. CIA can help now that Obama is gone.

Trump baby!!! Change the world!

Anyone want to give Iran's government some credit for allowing the peaceful protest?

Apparently Iran is more democratic than Catalonia.

Someone's bright idea...

That's not really a kick off though. Unless a day of protest was organized via SM or something - organic mass protests don't happen out of nowhere unless there is a pretty major event that gets people into the streets.

Like anyaone real believes the Arab Spring was some magical FB evolving movement. Who do you think the Russians learned that social media could be used as a successful tool against another government,

...lets count the hours before the bullets start flying. ;)

If that were to happen, I just want to state that I would be sprinting to condemn them. They would be no better than the Saudis at that point.

"...a general outcry against clerical rule and government policies."

Man, those Iranians do have balls after all. Protesting against 'clerical rule' and the 'government' in Iran? Boy, that does take some balls. I'll bet $1 that prisons are going to be full in Iran within the next 48 hours. There is an element of religion in there (clerical rule) that people are rising against. Like Catholics protesting the Pope. Does not look good.

Anyone remember this guy from 1989 Tiananmen Square, China, who stopped a column of tanks? We still don't know who he is. He had balls too. Not sure why the tank didn't just run him over. All this before the bullets started to fly that evening.

Why do you think the government is "letting them do this"? At this point the most likely reason is that there are too many people for the government to act violently. That if they did so, it would bring even more people to rebel.

I would like to see Trump send the CIA there and help them get some freedom.

What?

Send the CIA? Seriously

These are small protests. No biggie

On June 15, Obama would only say, “The world is watching and inspired by their participation, regardless of what the ultimate outcome of the election was,” despite the widespread conviction that the election had been stolen. As Wall Street Journal chief foreign correspondent Jay Solomon wrote in his book, The Iran Wars, the White House instructed the CIA to eschew giving help to the protesters. Solomon wrote, “The Agency has contingency plans for supporting democratic uprisings anywhere in the world. This includes providing dissidents with communications, money, and in extreme cases even arms. But in this case the White House ordered it to stand down.”

Supporting democratic uprisings seems to be a good thing to do.

The longer they wait, the worst it is going to get. That is usually what happens. It goes from a peaceful protest to a violent one. That's a big country. 4 times the size of Iraq. 80,000,000 people.

Because they are using less force against the protesters than Obama did against OWS.

Hell maybe the Iranians got the right permits, unlike OWS.
