In retrospect how huge was wandy-chuck?

All i know is Chuck fucking went for a takedown.. wtf.
Came here to post that.

And yeah, it was way too late. Still good, but that God damned takedown... Wtf.

It was very big when it finally happened but yeah it could have been much bigger. They also had one of the best staredowns.

Chuck wanted to pull a Mirko but was way coked up and couldn't stop moving. Which resulted in a great staredown anyway.

Not as big as Chuck vs Rampage or Wand vs Rampage.

Then again who would have thought Brian Stann vs Wand would have been one of the best fights in the UFC.

Why? It was one of the best fights of the year. The only people who didn't like it were crazy Wandy fans who said Chuck lay and prayed. even though it was a slug fest
They both were past their primes. They fought hard, but it wasnt the champ vs champ I wanted/

I thought it was a great fight...

The problem was that it was almost meaningless at the time. Neither was a champion anymore, they were both past their best-by dates, the winner wasn’t realistically going to get a title shot for winning, and with Pride no longer around, it lost the whole “Pride vs UFC” aura surrounding it...
That and it was only a 3 Round fight (damn Dana) also “ i vant to fuuck chuc”

it was big

but Wandy came off 2 losses in Pride, as did Chuck, they lost a lot of their aura already

then in the years to follow they lost to everyone's uncle and cousin so meh

Chuck vs. Rampage was bigger

I think the two Men deep inside respected each other, even though they were seen ripping each other's heads off, in the beginning of round 1. They were kinda sparring a little to test one another, in reality Wandy wouldn't had done that, I've seen the fight mainly out of respect. The fight was excellent in ideology but in practical it was past their prime, i've heard people saying that If they were fighting 5 years before the fight, Wandy would've kicked His ass, fair enough but a lot of you underestimated Chuck, there's a good chance He could've won the tournament, There's a good chance, Chuck could outsmart Wandy with an counter of His own, hell He even knocked out Alistair in His prime, and pride is mostly okay with PEDS. Any of you forget that Tito Ortiz defeated Wanderlei in His prime?

The truth is that the fight wasn't what we've pictured but they given their best, and they shouldn't underestimate both of these Fighters whose style are similar and the fact both of em fight with Brutality.

Btw My old man said Wandy should've used His BJJ skills to win since Chuck is a stand up guy but He has a background in Amateur Wrestling.

It is still cool that it happened and it was a fun fight but the fact that it was a co main tells you all you need to know. It happened well after it needed to to really be an all time match up. Rampage mauling Chuck in the 205 tournament prevented it

I remember when that fight finally happened it was something huge. The idea of a champ vs champ happened even though they had both lost twice coming into the match. It definitely softened the impact of the match leading up to it, and it didnt change the landscape of the division, but imo it did not kill the overall magic of the moment.

Its something I'll never forget. Very few fights had me so pumped, and in the moment, as that one. At the time i knew I was watching something historical taking place.

As the years have passed it seems less important than many fights that have since happened, but to me this was an all time thrill.
it was cool to finally see it, i was waiting too, i think the best part was that somehow chucks chin came back, just for that one fight, and we got to see 3 rounds of those guys banging like we'd all hoped for
<{clintugh}>

The first two rounds were great and when Wandy played possum and they traded shots against the cage it was fun

But Wandy was beat up and Chuck gassed in the 3rd round

Love the fight. It was late but it delivered. Gets overlooked a lot. Wanderlei had Chuck panic wrestling to steal rounds. Chucks last great performance.

to be fair he was dropped twice, not really hurt but knocked down. Looks bad to the judges. The takedown(s) were meaningless aside from stealing rounds.

5/10 cuz it happened too late.

...and don't turn this in to a GSP hate thread TS.

like you do...

I always wished they have had fought much earlier - when it was planned but Page's whooping stopped the momentum. Still, my first Pride vs UFC frustration of Wandy vs Tito was hard to overcome

lol Wanderlei was not in his prime vs Tito

Care to explain?

Because I'm very sure He was in His prime against Tito that took place in 2000 and He had an excellent record from His bare knuckle days, His UFC Career may not be perfect but it took place during His prime and After, His PRIDE Career took place during His prime and was undefeated for years until the Hunt bout. The head kick from Cro Cop is what destroyed Him and Was past His prime at around 30 years old.

The definition for "Prime" is "The period of your life when you were the most active or Successful"

He may not be successful in the UFC but He Had one victory in the early days of His career in the UFC, and Was active.

Again "Most Active or Successful" His early days was His most Successful.

So, I'll be here sitting. i won't be going anywhere, please explain to me, how he wasn't in His prime.

Thank you.

It wasn't that big. By that point Wandy was Ko'd brutally by both Crocop and Hendo and fans weren't sold on him winning. I also specifically remember Wandy wanted to take a break off for the rest of the year and Dana White being White went out to the media and told them Wandy was refusing to fight Chuck because he was scared of him. Well Wandy fell for it and angrily signed the contract.

The fight was a big let down of course considering both guys weren't what they once were at LHW.
