In retrospect how huge was wandy-chuck?

It was the fight that solidified me as a hardcore fan. Almost never missed a UFC PPV main event since then

Care to explain?

Because I'm very sure He was in His prime against Tito that took place in 2000 and He had an excellent record from His bare knuckle days, His UFC Career may not be perfect but it took place during His prime and After, His PRIDE Career took place during His prime and was undefeated for years until the Hunt bout. The head kick from Cro Cop is what destroyed Him and Was past His prime at around 30 years old.

The definition for "Prime" is "The period of your life when you were the most active or Successful"

He may not be successful in the UFC but He Had one victory in the early days of His career in the UFC, and Was active.

Again "Most Active or Successful" His early days was His most Successful.

So, I'll be here sitting. i won't be going anywhere, please explain to me, how he wasn't in His prime.

Thank you.

The competitive prime refers to the point where a player is statistically better/has better results, even if he has lost some of his athleticism.

Nice try tho.

The combination of back to back vicious CroCop and Hendo KOs, coupled with the Chutebox gym wars really took a toll on Wand.

I think Chuck had a little more left in the tank & like most wish the fight woulda happened 4 5 years earlier.

It was still a fun fight, I was glad I got to see it but everyone was left thinking "what could have been?"

Tbh the reign of Chuck and Wandy in their respective orgs was a bit before my time. I got into MMA around late 2008 to early 2009 so the fight had already happened. And since it wasn't for a title and both guys were coming off back to back losses the main appeal was the nostalgia for their past greatness which I didn't have. It just didn't have the same importance as other fights that happened before my time and from that era but still seemed like interesting and relevant fights that I enjoyed watching in retrospect like Fedor vs Cro Cop or Hendo vs Rampage.

You wrong...tito vs wanderlei was prime vs prime...

Titos just a bad match up for wanderlei

Wanderlei was an agressive striker who was prone to getting takendown throughout his career but he had serviceable ground game for getting back up..but against a wrestling and GNP control type fighter like.tito...just 1 takedown is all tito needed and why he won..

If this wasnt wanderleis prime for u..then when was it ?

For reference

Hendo 1-CroCop 2 Easily. That was in no way wanderleis Physical or skill set prime lol not even debatable

Fun fight with fun fighters but lost some of the superfight aura it had back when both were still champs. Still it was two of the biggest fighters in the sport and two guys who were still amongst the best in the division. God I miss 2000s LHW, what a fun division that was.

Alright, so If He came out of His bare knuckle days and we combine that with His UFC record in the early days it would be 11 wins and 3 losses, if you are going by competitive. Prime is Prime, His fighting was Prime, His early days were Prime, and I'm confident in someway, that the Tito bout was in His prime, the only thing why it doesn't sound like it is in His prime, is the losses He had in the early days of His UFC career.

Again, I respect your opinion. Thank you for understanding what I had to say, fair call on one's behalf. :D

Well you sometimes have to back up what you say, you can't expect it to be your way, debatable or not.

Watched it in a bar with a few people. Maybe the last time ever lol. It went to a decision. <Eek2.0>

I remember when that fight finally happened it was something huge. The idea of a champ vs champ happened even though they had both lost twice coming into the match. It definitely softened the impact of the match leading up to it, and it didnt change the landscape of the division, but imo it did not kill the overall magic of the moment.

Its something I'll never forget. Very few fights had me so pumped, and in the moment, as that one. At the time i knew I was watching something historical taking place.

As the years have passed it seems less important than many fights that have since happened, but to me this was an all time thrill.
It was good, but pathetic the ufc didn't make it 5 rounds as a main event

That was the last PPV I bought. It's just a shame that fight was about 5 years late in happening.

It was a few years too late but still ended up being a very good fight. Super competitive 29-28 for Liddell though he was closest to being finished in round 2. I think a few years prior at their peaks Wanderlei would have won as I think he had fallen off more at the time they fought.

I'm glad you said so, because that's how I remember that fight as well. Liddell looked awesome up until, well...

Yeah, he was looking great and broke Franklin's arm with a kick, then he got reckless and ran into a big hook. I always thought Liddell did better when his opponent was the aggressor rather than himself, kind of like Anderson.

not even big, one of the rare fights that I didnt bother watching.

It really was the last hurrah for both of them. I was lucky enough to be there for my first live event.
