Imo Sean Brady is a legit contender

He has a win in grappling over Craig Jones, that is certainly legit and by itself is really bad news for other grappling based MMA guys. Should he be able to get the elite strikers down to the mat and keep them there, they are in trouble, serious trouble. Of course that is a big if. I'll say he is a serious contender if he learned anything from the Belal fight. He certainly should have.

His cardio has looked a lot better from his previous fights too

Burns got his ass kicked by khamzat and has been stopped again by strikes since and is near 40 now and has looked pretty bad in his last few but ok..... Definitely the same fighter that went into the khamzat fight......

I couldn't imagine any path to victory for Brady if he fought khamzat. He's getting finished.
Burns went life and death with khamzat when he was 35.

shavkat hasn't faced a single good wrestler in his ufc career
you guys love overhyping "eastern menaces"
I don't see shavkats wild striking and submissions working against a fighter with good defensive striking and elite top control. I see him as the welterweight Charles Oliveira. Great fighter but would get smothered by fighters possessing the skillsets of Islam or arman

he is good at escaping from dangerous positions and has shown great submission defence though.
For sure. I think he can survive against Brady but could he avoid Brady holding him down for 5 rounds? I do think jdm improved more than Brady since the haffez fight so it is anybody's fight at the moment. That being said, it is unclear how long jdm will be out

Jdm cut weight twice that week and went through last minute opponent changes. Not really fair to base strong opinions on his skillset based off that fight, especially since he is only 27 years old and almost everyone else at the top of that division is older than him.
Honestly I was surprised how easily jdm got taken down. I suppose that the double weight cut hurt but his opponent also had a weeks notice. I do think jdm showed good submission defense against burns so I can see him surviving the takedowns and getting the KO but I think that's his most likely path to victory.

Yeah.. but he will not get a TS vs Belal.. after all he is the only guy Belal finished in like 89 years.
Luckily for him belal isn't likely to have a super long reign where he's already at a fairly advanced age.

Having one bad weight cut can change a fight. Imagine 2.

And JDM fought stupidly. He wasn't even trying to stuff takedowns - he was being like poirier and jumping the gilly repetitively.

It’s wild to me that a finish can’t be found in 25 minutes. I respect the sophisticated caution and focus a fighter can have when averting danger but part of the reason I love watching fighting is the risks that fighters are willing to take that I’m not. Good wrestling but where’s the danger? No lethal strikes, no submissions.
Lol the fact we have people making threads hyping up Sean Brady shows that WW is the worst division in the UFC right now
There are a few standouts but I have to agree welterweight has been better.

Give us Brady vs Ian, with a DP haiku thrown in.

Jumpin' the gilly.
Strategy that never worked
For bad ass Dustin. :(

I think this version of Brady could beat Belal

I also think Belal is super underrated and his style favors longevity.

But Shavkat goes full Genghis Khan on him. #andnew

I admit belal does have a great style to fight into a more advanced age. But yes Brady has been looking much improved.

I see Shavkat ruling over this division for a long time. Belal will be 36.5 yrs old by the time they fight, and that stat about fighters 35+ winning or retaining the belt is going to have to come into play soon. I don't see Leon beating Shavkat either. Usman, Colby, Burns, and Thompson likely aren't getting title shots ever again either. That leaves Garry, JDM, and Brady, and Shavkat matches up well with all of them.

I don't know his striking is just not good and he has 0 power. He is a unique matchup problem for WWs with sus grappling but overall I dont think hes a legit contender to touch the belt.
This is how I feel right here, pretty spot on.

I'd bet my Sherdog account in a heartbeat if the admins would let me that Khamzat would beat Brady.

Dude went life and death with the corpse of Michael Chiesa. Got saved by the bell. That was when I knew there was a highly likely chance that Brady was not champ material.

Still a fan of Brady but Khamzat is unquestionably the better fighter, having watched both.

Great performance for Brady here showing his elite grappling and more than servicable striking. I have him beating Garry and JDM and giving Shavkat a unique challenge with his grappling. I've always thought his biggest weakness was cardio, but his cardio has looked really good this fight.
Imo his next fight should be a title eliminator against Garry, JDM, Usman, or Shavkat

I tend to agree -- his cardio really impressed me seeing as how he gassed against Belal and kinda got tired against Chiesa when they fought. I wonder what the difference was against Burns. He fought a very grueling style for 5 rounds and looked fine.
