I'm starting to think Nate Diaz's cardio is overrated

Nate is built for longer fights, it's no secret. A 3 rounder is a huge handicap for him. That's not the pace that allows him to best implement the heavy volume style of fighting where he picks up steam as he goes. He had to come out of the gate strong in this one, which made him more tired than usual. Even so, his 'tired' was much better than most other guys'. The strategy worked. He had to deviate from his normal gameplan to get the win and he did it much more efficiently than most people anticipated. As a longtime fan, I even expected him to lose round 1 and was hoping he'd take over for the next 2. He surpassed my expectations with his approach.

Pretty ridiculous to try to nitpick now and act like a guy who had been off for 3 years and was forced to do something completely different than the way he prefers to fight has overrated cardio.

Lol at these idiots in here talking about weed.

A lot of cardio is energy efficiency. Something GSP mastered which is why he could go just as hard in the 5th as he did in the 1st during his prime years.

Yes, the guy who landed 252 strikes against Conor and 258 against Cerrone to overtake Bisping and Edgar for most strikes landed ever is overrated with regard to cardio and Stamina.

Conor landed 200 strikes in that fight too, does he have exceptional cardio?

His cardio is amazing, he gets punched a bunch and never stops, of course he paces himself in the later rounds. But nobody has a skull and cardio like him, the most durable fighter in UFC with Nick.

The American Lung Association is concerned about the health impacts of marijuana use, especially on lung health. We caution the public against smoking marijuana because of the risks it poses to the lungs.

Lung Health and Marijuana Smoke
Smoking marijuana clearly damages the human lung. Research shows that smoking marijuana causes chronic bronchitis and marijuana smoke has been shown to injure the cell linings of the large airways, which could explain why smoking marijuana leads to symptoms such as chronic cough, phlegm production, wheeze and acute bronchitis.4,9

Smoking marijuana has also been linked to cases of air pockets in between both lungs and between the lungs and the chest wall, as well as large air bubbles in the lungs among young to middle-aged adults, mostly heavy smokers of marijuana.

Smoke is harmful to lung health. Whether from burning wood, tobacco or marijuana, toxins and carcinogens are released from the combustion of materials. Smoke from marijuana combustion has been shown to contain many of the same toxins, irritants and carcinogens as tobacco smoke.4-7

Beyond just what's in the smoke alone, marijuana is typically smoked differently than tobacco. Marijuana smokers tend to inhale more deeply and hold their breath longer than cigarette smokers, which leads to a greater exposure per breath to tar.8

Secondhand marijuana smoke contains many of the same toxins and carcinogens found in directly-inhaled marijuana smoke, in similar amounts if not more.5 While there is no data on the health consequences of breathing secondhand marijuana smoke, there is concern that it could cause harmful health effects, especially among vulnerable children in the home. Additional research on the health effects of secondhand marijuana smoke is needed.

There is no doubt that smoking weed is bad for your lungs. Saying it is as bad as cigarettes is absurd though

hes getting old plus fighting world class oppositioned

don't mind him getting tired

Aside from walking away to catch his breath in that bout, he showed decent cardio. The difference is he was tiring at the end, evidenced by Nate taking him down effortlessly to finish the fight. Nate did not slow down and looked as if he could have kept going. This was obvious to anyone who watched the fight.

Show me one time where Nate was out of gas completely. He hadn’t fought in 3 years and purposely came out stronger than normal for Pettis.

You mean the 5 rounds fight against Conor ? Ok.
Yes he lost the fourth and was very tired, its an absolute myth he is a cardio king. Compare him to colby or stylebender. Those mother fuckers dont stop

Says he was tired in 3rd round against Pettis, which is why he couldn't finish him, but it didn't seem that high-pace of a fight. Failed to finish Conor in rematch, suggesting he couldn't outcardio him, which he should have been able to because Conor's cardio is very bad. I am starting to think guys like Tony Ferguson and Colby Covington have far superior cardio than Nathan.

How is Conor's cardio bad exactly when he out cardiod Diaz in the rematch, survived Mendes & only other loss is to Khabib?

Diaz brothers cardio is deceptive. They don't fight/look energetic. That's how they lure fighters into the pitter patter combos that Pettis got hit with in rd3. He looked okay for a 3 year layoff. Harsh to judge him. Masvidal will push him in a 5 rounder and you'll be happy & make another thread.

Well, besides getting older, what's he been doing for the last couple years? If he's been skipping his running in favor of smoking up, you may have your answer.

I certainly think Nate’s cardio is lower than Tony’s or Colby’s when taking into consideration the intensity of the output of both guys.

Nate has above average cardio while Conor has way below average cardio which makes Nate seem like he has god like cardio.

His cardio is good but it obviously isnt Nick levels of good, which we’ve all been thinking forever now.

Nick still comes out in round 3 with insane output, whereas Nate starts huffing and puffing.

Oh what a silly comparison... You're bringing to the table 2 examples of fighters that are entering in their prime. Nate has been around for like forever fighting anyone in front of him and still fighting strong at this moment dispatching Pettis as a massive underdog. Don't know where the "cardio king" label came from but Nate's cardio has always been ok. Let's see how your guys do when they got 40 like Anderson Silva.

Personally I didn't notice anything during the fight. Only during the short interview by Rogan I noticed that he was breathing heavily.
Going by facts only, he paced himself pretty close to what he should. It only cost him a possible finish.
I think Nate did very good, especially considering that Nick has lost fights because of running out of time (a truth that is ridiculed by some sherdoggers). That was one of Nate's worries coming into this fight.

Nate gassed in the second conor fight at the age of 31, triathlete nate. Lmao

He's been out for like 3 years. Give the guy a break lol

Hey man he just had a 3 year break now you want us to give him another break

lmao

He's just getting old man. Tim Kennedy said the same thing when he lost to Kelvin, he's been in top physical shape for almost the entirety of his adult life. Guy was doing paratrooper shit and fights on the same weekend. At some point the meat just can't perform the way it used to no matter how well you take care of it.
