So I got hired to be a prison guard.
It sounds pretty intense, I have to move across the country but will more than double my salary.
First I have to graduate training, which takes 3 months.
So what should I expect? I know a bunch of you doggers have been in the slammer.

I have found that sometimes a culture arises among public servants in which people outside of the public service are regarded as belonging to a different lesser species.

Those dead prisoners have relatives who are missing them. Perhaps you have relatives outside the public service. I hope you will treat the prisoners as you would like to have your relatives treated.

So yeah it will be tough for sure. I'm going to put all my focus into the training to make sure I'm as ready as I can be.

Don't do it. Corrections is a cancer on your family and social life. You will have never see your family and friends. It eats into how you act and treat people after a while. I did it for a while and it was not fucking worth it at all.

If you do it watch your back. Guards are pieces of shit and will fuck you over when it suites them.

I was just recruited from a contractor company that works with the prison systems. I think they saw I was in the Army and an O.E.F. veteran on my resume that I have posted on my states job boards.

The Job is called food service supervisor. The job is basically to make sure the prisoners are doing their job right and to keep tabs on the inventory. There is no manual labor or cooking on my end. That's the prisoners job.

I had a telephone interview today and will have a face to face interview on Friday. I'm looking to get out of swinging a hammer for a living, so I'm going to give this a shot.

It's a State Max prison, but I'm honestly more worried about the staff being dickheads than I am about the prisoners. The kitchen is one of the better jobs in a prison, so I'm not expecting it to be too gnarly.

If you get to be CERT, do you still have to do normal prison guard shifts and deal with the prisoners on day to day basis?

You'll definitely be dealing with prisoners on a day to day basis, whether you'll have other assignments depends on the size of the agency and the kind of coverage they have.

i have a degree im psychology and criminology and i tried to get in LE for two years but couldnt wait any longer.
just been working security at a school in that time.

Its so weird. Just yesterday I was at a hockey pro shop, and there was an employee there with criminology degree talking about how he cant get cop job anywhere. He applied even out of state. And then this thread pops up, by a Canadian nonetheless, home of hockey.

This probably is not coincidence. I bet police academies, and cop jobs are swamped with applicants everywhere.

Good luck bro....I've a cousin that worked his way from driving the prison bus to becoming prison guard to DPS State Trooper. Lot's of good advice here, but always remember it's just a stepping stone to better things. Hope it works out for ya.
